Hello to the Tucson Padres

Post by aardvark » Wed Jan 26, 2011 3:40 am

The website is up, and the logo is now known. A combination of the Padres logo from the late '70's and early 80's, with the addition of a Tucson accent, with mountains and a cactus. Like it or not, it should only be temporary, as the club is still supposed to move to Escondido, Ca. in 2013 (if they ever start building the park). The color scheme does NOT include piss-yellow, er, sand--it appears to be blue and gray. Also, allegedly the road uniforms will also be gray, no sand (which, rumor has it, the major league club will be going to as well). Update as of 2/26/11--The Tucson Padres might be there longer than first thought, as the stadium plan in Escondido has been put on hold for the foreseeable future. Update as of 7/22/11--The Tucson Padres might not be long for this world after all. The city of Escondido has been told by club owner Jeff Moorad that if the stadium plan is still spinning it's wheels by the end of the AAA season, then Moorad is putting the club up for sale. The only possible way he keeps ownership is if another north San Diego County city steps up to the plate (so to speak) and offers to build him a stadium. It won't be San Marcos, so the other bigger cities in the region (Oceanside? Encinitas? Another city?) would have to step up. Not likely, so the only cities in the running would be Tucson, under different ownership, and El Paso, who apparently is willing to build the club a new ballpark (or they could play in the existing park).
