I recall seeing Todd Self -- who was just released by Trenton (Yankees AA) -- when he was at Salem (Houston High-A). He's a big first baseman with a very sweet swing, the sort of guy who could hit for some power but would need to develop that aspect of his game. I expected him to ascend with success, and wasn't surprised when he cracked the Astros for a cup of coffee last season. I am surprised to see that he has struggled this season and been released twice. Hope he finds a spot somewhere. He's got a very nice lefty cut.

Todd has come home to Shreveport and signed with the Shreveport Sports of the American Independent League. He struggled this year but was not playing every day with both teams this year. Sometimes going a week without an at bat. He asked for and was granted his release from both teams. In Shreveport he'll get to play everyday and get his stroke back and hopefully get picked up again. Being a career .300 hitter in the minors, I think he'll be back!
