Today's New Hampshire primary is stirring up emotion in the Granite State, much like the New Hampshire Primaries baseball team did in 2003.

Back then, people in New Hampshire, in the heart of baseball-crazed New England, were thrilled to learn they were getting minor league baseball. The Double-A New Haven Ravens played their final game in Sept. of 2003. The franchise relocated to Manchester, N.H., to prepare for its inaugural 2004 season. One of the biggest decisions was the new team name and logo.

On Nov. 6, 2003 the club announced the name New Hampshire Primaries, celebrating the state's role in the presidential election process. The constituents revolted. Protesting petitions appeared online, media interviewed upset fans and the baseball world wondered if the political label would be vetoed. Team management noted the logo impartially included images of both a Democratic donkey and a Republican elephant, but bipartisan ballcaps weren't enough; the Primaries had to be impeached.

On Nov. 10, the club announced a team name amendment and a few weeks later, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats were born.

I would have kept the name. They could have played the Iowa Caucuses.
