Interesting Oregonian article today about the possibility of Oregon reviving their baseball program and, if so, teaming with the Eugene Emeralds to build a new ballpark.

I should mention that the old place is a classic, though it will certainly turn off people expecting individual seats and the like. Get there while you can. It's an old WPA project that's served Eugene for 70 years... and the BBQ chicken sandwiches still come recommended.
Eugene Needs Help... Will U of Oregon Step Up
Sure enough, U of Oregon announced the revival of the program beginning in 2009. They will compensate by dropping wrestling.
Frankly, I thought an announcement was at least two years away, with a new basketball arena being a higher priority. Shocking, really.
They're already generating some talk of a replacement stadium and options other than Eugene Civic Stadium, if the announcement itself wasn't shocking enough. Stay tuned, I guess.

One final update in order, since the Emeralds will be playing in PK Park this year.

Sad part... the only dirt is on the pitching mounds (including bullpens). Everything else is artificial surface.
