Oneonta in Norwich

Post by savagem » Thu Jan 28, 2010 6:41 pm

Assuming they ever hold the press conference today (it's been delayed--again), I'll be writing an article on Dodd Stadium's new team for a region newspaper. I would love some insight and/or opinions from some of you baseball experts to include in the article. Anyone care to offer an opinion re how the team will fare at their new venue?

The angle we heard here in Richmond when the Eastern League Defenders moved here was that the Defenders simply could not draw in April and May -- whether it was families not going out on school nights or the always-fun spring weather in southeastern Connecticut, the first two months of the season were a writeoff.

If that's true, moving to a league that doesn't start play until mid-June means dumping the unprofitable home games and keeping the profitable ones.

It'll be interesting to see if that angle holds up when you research the article.
