I like the name and logo

The new American Hockey League franchise that will begin play in San Jose next season as the Sharks’ primary affiliate finally has its name.

The San Jose Barracuda will be part of the new AHL’s Pacific Division, and will compete at SAP Center beginning in the fall. The team is relocating from Worcester, MA.

The name of the team is due to a partnership with Barracuda Networks, “a long-time supporter of our organization and a company who is aggressively active in the field of sports marketing,” said Sharks COO John Tortora in a statement.

Rarely do you see a sponsor's name work so well. I'm looking at you, Detroit Neon.

The Neon quickly became the Safari which is what scares me if teams ever sell naming rights. Is that they might be changing names far too often.

IIRC - The CBA Tulsa Fast Breakers were named for some sort of convenience store chain that ownership had stake in.

The - MISL / MSL / NPSL Cleveland Crunch was rumored to be after some sort of sponsorship deal with Nestle that never materialized.

But really? Can San Jose support a minor league team on top of the Sharks?

You know they are going to be playing the late 1970s hit by Heart before every game.

I can't help it. With that team name: I'm reminded of at least, one administrator, teacher, or noon aide from Elementary & Middle School in the 1970's. :-P

The Sharks will prop up the Barracuda until another arena (likely the Warriors' new arena in SF) becomes available, in order to support the AHL West Division.

Let's not forget the last season of the franchise, where GM had the naming rights and the team was known as the Detroit Safari. Because that makes me want to go out and buy the dullest of minivans.

In hindsight, the Detroit Vipers wasn't a completely bad sponsorship/nickname.
