Post by RimRockers Play2Win » Tue Jan 19, 2010 3:38 am

The RimRockers Play2Win Staff and Coaches will be on hand for the camp, so players will have additional quality instruction and evaluation. Included in the staff are former Phoenix Suns basketball standout, Gary Thompson, Managing Partner and Director of Basketball Operations, Jonathan Bentley. "We anticipate a great turnout for the event and an even better inaugural season," said Bentley. "With the people that we have surrounding and supporting us, we look for positive results in the near future, added Bentley.

Along with athletic ability and skill, players will be observed in a number of areas. Players are required to bring business casual wear (slacks and a polo shirt) and be prepared to interview just as they would for any career opportunity. "We are excited about the opportunity that we are prepared to extend to athletes that meet our criteria," stated team owner Jonathan Bentley. "We are confident that there is enough talent in the area and surrounding areas that we can build a very competitive team that will compete for an ABA Championship in our inaugural season during the 2010-11 season."

Select players from the tryout will be invited to play in exhibition games leading up to our inaugural season. All players will compete for 15 contracted player spots. This is the opportunity of a lifetime and you owe it to yourself to test your ability against some of the best players in Texas, New Mexico and surrounding states.

Currently, we are looking for 15 basketball players for our 2009-10 exhibition season for the Southwest Division of the ABA. We currently do not have any players under contract. Players will be under contact and will be paid through the course of the season per game. Also, selected players will have other opportunities provided to them as well.

These are determining factors that the coaching staff as well as the owners will take into consideration upon making final selections regarding players. As a franchise, it is our duty to stand behind our personnel and in doing so, we must hold everyone to the highest of standards in the following areas:

Winning Spirit:
We desire players that have a "winning spirit" that will never quit. This spirit is not "cocky" or "brash", but confident and assured that by preparing, planning and executing the game plan successfully is the ultimate result. Players have to want to work hard to achieve positive results. And if there is "No Deposit, then No Return"...

Talent:
We desire players that are physically and mentally sound allowing them to perform at the highest level of competition whether on or off the court. And talent means nothing if you are not coach-able, a player has to be flexible, able to conform to the team's playing style and believing in the ability of the coaching staff to help support and promote athletic development and winning.

Character Building:
We desire players that can co-exist within an organization that prides itself on up-holding a strong moral fabric in which we live by. Players that understand and respect that they are ambassadors (on and off the court)of a proud organization that is founded upon integrity, trust, dedication, honesty and work hard. Our organization works hard to uplift and empower our personnel, the families within the community and society as a whole.

Work Ethic:
We desire players that are self motivated, mature, highly enthused, and dedicated to making sacrifices that far exceed what is required during practice, training, conditioning and competition. A player must be willing to get into the gym and put in extra work to constantly keep improving upon skills that he has been blessed with.

Resilience:
We desire players that can handle the pressure of failure and despite its potential, will go out every day and night to train and compete with their eye focused upon success.

Team Attitude:
We desire players that work well within a unit, are not selfish or bound by individual glory. Players that aspire to prepare, plan and execute success.

The RimRockers Play2Win Scores First Win of 2010 Season

Post by RimRockers Play2Win » Tue Jan 19, 2010 3:44 am

The RimRockers defeated the ABA Texas Chaparrals, loss to the North Texas Fresh
Janaury 18, 2010 - 7:30am
By Jonathan Bentley

After a close loss to the New Mexico All-Stars in its season opener on December 19th, the RimRockers Play2Win's basketball team celebrated an 131-121 victory over the Texas Chaparrals on Saturday, January 16th in Euless, Texas. Thanks in large part to an aggressive offense, the RimRockers were able to keep its lead over the Chaparrals throughout the entire game.

Starting power forward Reece Hampton started off the game with three quick baskets, pushing the RimRockers (10-2) ahead of rival Texas Chaparrals (12-3) early in the first quarter. Hampton led the team with 17 points in the first half (and a game total of 33 points), scoring on the buzzer to give the RimRockers a 67-44 lead before halftime.

“We played well,” Hampton said of the RimRockers’ offense. “We are a strong offensive team. We had some good looks and made open shots.” Following an Chaparrals timeout halfway through the second quarter, the RimRockers ramped up their offense significantly. The Chaparrals’s two leading scorers, (# 2) Jenkins and (# 4) Johnson, contributed nine and eight points respectively in the second quarter, fighting to catch up to the RimRockers.

But it was not enough to get ahead going in to the second half, Wade Elliott, TJ Tate, Kelvin Moore, Carl Washington, Felix Aquiar and tryout participant Rob Smith lead a second half scoring surge with a 22-7 run, and Hampton topped it off with a thunderous tip-in dunk on the final possesion of the third quarter.

RimRockers Play2Win Head Coach Jonathan Bentley was very pleased with the win.“We was a little sluggish coming on,” Bentley said. “But we got it together and overall we played well.”

Following their 10-point victory, The second game of the double header was against the ABA North Texas Fresh. This game featured the players who attended the RimRockers' Open Player Tryouts and were brought in to test their mettle against the Fresh.

The Fresh came out with a defensive minded attitude and started the game with an 11-2 run. A scrambling full court defense kept the Rim Rockers at bay with the Fresh taking a 45-19 point lead at half-time. After that time, the Fresh never loooked back, ending the game ahead by 39 points.

Point guard JB Smiley upheld his point-scoring reputation, earning the RimRockers' 11 points against the Fresh in the first half. Center Wale Adeyemi also contributed considerably to RimRockers’ offensive prowess, earning a team-high of 17 points on Saturday.

Bentley, acknowledging the relatively young team, commented on how the rookies were adjusting to their first exposure to semi-pro basketball. “They’re handling the nerves of the game pretty well for the most part,” Smith said. “They settled down and did their job in the second half.”

Their job was to maintain their composure and work together as a team, in the second half, they certainly did so. When starting two guard Charlie Reese accompanied the tryout participants on the court, he lead the RimRockers’ second half surge including a game-changing block that let the Fresh know the next time we play them again we will be ready. The game ended in a 93-54 victory for the Fresh.

Jonathan Bentley, Director of Basketball Operations and Head Coach, expressed confidence in the team for their upcoming games. “We have a lot of potential and I like our attitudes,” Bentley said. “The players listen and learn and want to get better, and I think we’ll continue to improve.”

The team hopes to for another victory this Friday when it will play the New Mexico All-Stars in the New Mexico Classic Series in Albuquerque, NM. “I feel good going into the season,” Jonathan Bentley said. “We’ve really come together as a team. We have a tough schedule ahead of us, but I think we’ll get stronger as the season carries on."

The RimRockers had one of those nights...152-72 Loss to the ABA Southeast Mavericks!!

Post by RimRockers Play2Win » Wed Jan 27, 2010 5:22 pm

can be a whole different view from the outside looking in.

When you are going against No. 1 in semi-pro basketball in United States, and you're playing them at home, the air can get a little thinner up in there. Legs grow a little shaky. Head gets a little fuzzy. You can lose your focus.

Example: Not quite three minutes into the second half Monday night's game against the top-ranked Southeast Mavericks 158-72 loss for the RimRockers Play2Win, The RimRockers' had only suited up 6 players against Mavericks and it showed with the most lopsided loss in team and ABA history. The RimRockers' played hard against the Mavericks in the first half but didn't follow the advice of head coach Jonathan Bentley in the second half as the Mavericks destroyed them in the third quarter with a 42-9 run.

It was that kind of night.

Thru it all, we welcomed the experience of playing the 1# team in semi-pro basketball and look forward to the Rematch on March 6th in Beaumont, Texas.
