2011 Minor Hockey Silly Season

Post by robster2001 » Mon Jun 13, 2011 11:09 pm

It looks like between the economy and some unwieldy league situations, the 2011 Silly Season is going to be sillier than usual... here are the team relocations, expansions, and folds that we know about:

AHL
Manitoba Moose -> St. John's, Nfld.

ECHL
Victoria Salmon Kings fold (arena picks up WHL junior team)
Chicago Express start
Colorado Eagles move from CHL

CHL
Colorado Eagles move to ECHL
Odessa Jackalopes move to NAHL (junior)
Mississippi RiverKings move to SPHL
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs fold
Bloomington PrairieThunder fold
Bloomington Blaze added
Quad City Mallards folded briefly, then were purchased and restarted

SPHL
Mississippi RiverKings move from CHL

FHL
Rome Frenzy folded
Niagara Falls Nationals added, then dropped.
New Jersey Outlaws added
Danville Dashers added
Green Mountain Rock Crushers added, then dropped, then added again.

And the AHL affiliation merry-go-round is also underway:

St. John's - drops Vancouver (former parent in Manitoba), adds Winnipeg
Chicago - loses Atlanta/Winnipeg, adds Vancouver
Rochester - drops Florida, adds Buffalo
Portland - loses Buffalo, adds Phoenix
San Antonio - loses Phoenix, adds Florida

EDIT: Updated July 23.

Anyone hearing anything not listed here? :)
