American Ultimate Disk League 2014

Post by Evad » Mon Mar 10, 2014 6:02 pm

Since Our Sports Central is THE PLACE to talk about "Independent and Minor League Sports News" I think it's time to give the A.U.D.L. a shout out. This League will be starting its third season with teams on the East coast, Central and western parts of the country. If your not familiar with ultimate Check this YouTube clip of last years championship.

The sport is growing. Crowd size depends on what part of the country the team is in. Average attendance in some of the bigger markets are in the neighborhood of 2000 to 3000 per game, with some of the smaller markets getting around 1000 or less.

Teams:

Eastern Conference
DC Breeze
Montreal Royals
New York Empire
Philadelphia Phoenix
Rochester Dragons
Toronto Rush

Midwestern Conference
Cincinnati Revolution
Detroit Mechanix
Indianapolis AlleyCats
Madison Radicals
Minnesota Wind Chill
Chicago Wildfire

Western Conference
Salt Lake Lions
San Francisco Flamethrowers
San Jose Spiders
Seattle Raptors
Vancouver Riptide

AUDL is the first pro Ultimate Disk League and is growing and doing well, the question I have is, will OSC give it some recognition? Only time will tell.

Full schedule for the AUDL is up on the web site, and there are rumors of ESPN3 showing games.

And it looks like fans in San Diego are trying to get the leagues attention about an expansion team.

League expansion

Post by Evad » Thu Apr 10, 2014 3:49 pm

So, I like rooting for the underdog. And leagues that have a great product and are fun to watch get my attention. The AUDL is that league for me right now. Facebook is a great way to get the word out about leagues and other ideas like expansion. San Diego, in my opinion, would be the perfect city for a pro Ultimate team.

I'm working on encouraging the league to take a serious look at the S.D. by starting a Facebook page "Bring the AUDL to San Diego" it's only been up for two weeks, but, I've heard from the league and five or six teams and they love the idea of a San Diego team. All that to say, give Ultimate a look, it has a fast paced game, lots of highlights and there are teams all across the country. Season starts this weekend.

I have attended one of these events and for what it is yes it can be entertaining it is also good that they are not waiting around to be validated by anyone or anything else, their are many fringe type sports that today generate a respectable fan base and as a minor league sport can find its niche . Good luck to them!

OK after the first two weekends of games the AUDL is off to a great start.

Has anyone gone to a game? I live in an area where there is no AUDL, not yet anyway, so I would love to hear from someone that has gone to a game this season and get your perspective.

Don't forget the AUDL's rival league Major League Ultimate [www.mlultimate.com]. Also, I found the site http://www.ultiworld.com to be a good source of updates in this sport.

The AUDL is wrapping up their 2014 season and it looks like its a battle between Toronto, San Jose, Madison, New York, D.C., Indy and San Fransisco

I've been working on drawing attention to the San Diego market and the league is looking to expand to San Diego in 2016.

Another fan has started a Bring the AUDL to Oklahoma City page.

Anyone close enough to Toronto and would be willing to go and check out the Championship game and report back?

I'd shoot for more Colorado and Washington state markets, tying in with recent legalizations. San Fran needs some sort of Grateful Dead tie-in (start with tie-dye uniforms).
