[quote=""LordBy2014""]Woods is practically begging the NFL to buy into his concepts/ideas, I think, by showing that his players are getting invitations to NFL teams rookie camps/training camps . . . true proof of concept would be if/when the NFL and/or CFL invest funds or serious resources into scouting these players and or marketing the ideas . . . which as of now won't be happening anytime soon!

FB Academies might be his niche for now - I think if this is the route he's going to take, he needs to focus on players between their 1st and 4th year removed from college that are either not invited to camps or cut/released - this might be best way to get the NFL/CFL to notice and possibly partner up . . .

just my humble opinion

Lord,

I think 'practically begging' is an understatement. His biz exit strategy is a partnership or buyout period. He went with fxfl route when that was the buzz coming out of the nfl. Now their mumblings are more for an Academy style so he tries this.

Again its very easy to replicate so even if the nfl liked it they could just clean slate start and do their own. SL even more so than FXFL

Since Woods is about two weeks away from his West coast "showcase", here's a link to a recent story from Napa. The whole thing isn't in San Francisco, but rather 60 miles north on the 101 in Napa. Apparently, former Bills RB Fred Jackson is among those registered.

Excerpt:
“The Spring League Showcase will provide the NFL with additional opportunities to evaluate players just before the start of training camps,” said Brian P. Woods, CEO of The Spring League. “We are thrilled to bring professional football to Napa Valley and to be playing at such a tremendous venue in Napa Memorial Stadium.”

Kickoff is at 5 p.m., and gates will open at 3:30 p.m. Woods said he hopes at least 1,000 to 2,000 fans attend the game.

Ticket prices range from $35 to a $150 sideline VIP ticket. Tickets are available by going to TheSpringLeague.com. Tickets will also be available at the stadium on the day of the game.

A special ticket price is available through Groupon and also the Napa High cheer team. All of the proceeds from tickets purchased through the Napa High cheer team goe directly to the cheer team, officials said.

He said the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau recommended the league talk to Visit Napa Valley and the Napa Chamber of Commerce about playing in the stadium.

“It just felt like that would be a unique event for an area like that. It’s a really nice venue,” he added.

Yeah, good luck with that.

Right. He had some success landing player contracts, so he is not waiting till next yr while there's player interest. Let's see if the production is better than April.

He had some success landing player minicamp looks.

Let's see how many guys come to training camp. Let's see how many guys actually play in preseason games. I already know how many will be on active rosters come September.

To my knowledge, 20 of the 90 from The Greenbrier made it to team minicamps, but only two are on a 90-man today.

One with WAS; one with CAR.

Well, that seems cost-effective.

What percentage of guys who don't go through the traditional channels have to get told to pursue another line of work before guys stop trying to beat those odds?

20 got a chance; 22%

2 made it, 2.2%

for what and investment of $350 and 3/4 weeks of SL camps and scrimmages

Of course the players will take that chance.

If you care to watch, next Saturday's game will be on FLOSports.

$20 for a month or $150 for the year of all of FLOSports' content (wrestling, track, DCI)

Of course the players will. (And they didn't "make it" anywhere but to this point.)

The question is not whether players will take that chance. You can always find players. There are always guys who refuse to give up their adolescence and will do anything, pay anything, endure any hardship to try and prove they are professional football players. And if 97.8% of them don't make it, that seems about right.

But you can't make a viable league that purports to get players into the NFL when you only get direct mail response levels of success. And people - as we've seen - won't pay to watch those players play on made-up teams in anything remotely approaching numbers necessary to make money at it.
