FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Major League Management Consortium is pleased to announce the formation of the ONLY professional women’s basketball league underneath the WNBA. The league is incorporated in Nevada but will play in the eastern United States.

The Women’s Basketball League will tip-off in April of 2013 with franchises in at least five cities in the East and Midwest. The timing of the season corresponds to being able to market players overseas or prepare them for WNBA tryouts.

Unlike current basketball operations for women, the TWBL will have 10-player rosters, pay each player $100 a game and take care of expenses on the road. Each club will play two (2) games per weekend for six weeks after a week-long training camp that will also offer compensation. Franchises will operate in the $40-50,000 range for the season and will have hands-on assistance from the league.

The Consortium is made up of a management group that includes the former C.O.O. of the Premier Basketball League, the former VP of the Phoenix Coyotes (NHL) and a consultant for the Houston Comets (WNBA) and a four-year starter from the University of Charleston’s women’s team. Other members are from Evansville, Indiana, Nashville, Tennessee and Phoenix, Arizona. The group already has a major corporate sponsor on board and is looking at a Fall tournament in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.

“This is not brain surgery,” CEO John Guy of Phoenix stated. “Any sport can be successful if you have a good business plan and people do what they promise to do. We already have several communities that are embracing our plan and we’ll be announcing franchises shortly.”

“We are going to be honest and have high ethics for this,” Guy added, “and our formula for success will work. Teams will actually own the league they play in so there is a vested interest in making the entire project work.”

The league will hold tryouts throughout the country and hold a pre-season draft. Players will be insured and covered through the Worker’s Compensation program. Franchise fees for first-year teams are only $4,000 and future teams will have to purchase league ownership from existing teams.

Ownership groups are urged to contact the league at the above number for more information.

Yeah, "professional" league. And the beat-my-chest bravado on the website and the cheap logo just screams "professional."

Hi Tommy, I'm not sure if all parties are associated with both leagues, but here is the link to the Central Basketball League's Executive Team. To me, it appears to be the same group. http://centralbasketballleague.com/about.html
