Central Basketball "Development" League shrinks again

Post by Dan K » Sun Apr 27, 2014 1:34 pm

From a one-time high of 18 teams proposed for 2014, I noticed the CBDL standings no longer include the 4 previously listed Western Conference teams and the league is reduced to the 6 Florida-based teams in the Eastern Conference. It looks like the Fort Pierce team, once the Warriors and then the Royals, is now the Fort Pierce Finest. The league's Facebook page says it will expand to 20 teams next year.

I guess they don't learn. Trying to jump to 20 teams this year didn't work. If you look at the schedule on there web page (finally got put up 3 months after it was promised) you will see only 5 teams scheduled. I'm still not convinced that the league will survive the season.

Looks like all that exists of this league is the Spartans and whoever Ben can scrounge up to play against. So far, two games that don't involve the Spartans have been scheduled, and neither one played. But look, he's looking for more players, again.

I'm sure with the way things are run there, all the NBA scouts are beating on the doors wanting in.

Now they are publicly calling out one of their team owners. http://www.centralbasketballleague.com

Not saying the guy was good, but shouldn't it be the leagues responsibility to check these guys out before bringing them on board?

This is the third or fourth team owner that has been kicked out since the first of the year.

Like I said - any of the Owners trying to do this properly is either in the FBA or in the process of TRYING to join the FBA. I told Ben and John Guy we have checked the guys out that they were bringing in. Oh well...more damage to control.

Is there ever going to be a point at which people recognize this can't really be done?
Old enough to remember when bashing the ABA was fun.

Not as long as the Kool Aid keeps flowing.

It's being done. Honestly, it's not as hard as people think. It just takes a lot longer than people are willing to wait. We are going on year 5. We will actually turn a profit this year too. We've got some plans in the works to generate additional revenue streams as well. Guys are getting opportunities elsewhere. We added a feeder team to a Super League team in Israel this year as well.

It's really just about being honest, being who you are at the time, and showing consistent growth. It's also vital that you have creative and effective community outreach programs too. (Like our J's for A's and Not Afraid to Fly programs). It's about leadership. I formed the FBA because there is no leadership in almost all the other leagues. The TRBL and the FBA went the same route from the deplorable CBL (Continental Basketball League...NOT to be confused with this others CBL circus show). I'd say our leagues are doing better than most (if not all) other leagues.

It seems that The CB(D)L is down another team. The Panama City Dream have apparently been removed because they haven't played a game a full month into the season. Not to worry!!! A new team has taken their place, the Micro Guard Dobermans. It is unclear where they are from. The only team in the league with an active website or Facebook page is the Spartans. You almost wonder if Ben is just making up scores and stats at this point.

Apparently two games were played today. Scores have still not been posted so if they really happened it's anyone's guess. Ben has really nailed this "professional league" thing with the constant changing of teams, schedules, lack of player stats. Oh, but don't worry, they play by NBA rules so that makes then "respectable".

I feel bad for the players that have fallen for this sham.

In other news, Ben has started his own car detailing business and is advertising it on the CB(D)L Facebook page. I know the FBA and the Florida Flight do a lot of charity work. Perhaps all the players could all call and have their cars cleaned at their next game! (I know, I know, it's really mean but damn it would be funny).
