Doing an SRS for the ABA is difficult because the math works best when all teams play from a single pool of opponents and approximately the same number of games. This is not the case with the ABA. I have results for 351 games and am missing maybe another 20-30 (comparing the league’s standings to mine.) I whittled the 351 games down to 278 based on common opponents or if the non-ABA teams are/were actively playing in another league (UBL, APBL, etc.) I also didn’t include the outside team if it had only played one ABA opponent (with one exception: I counted the three games the St Louis Scorpions played against Missouri to boost the Rhythms totals.) In total there were 81 teams, however, after running the SRS I removed the 27 teams that had either folded, moved to another league or otherwise disappeared. The 54 remaining teams have played at least one game since the first of the year. Finally, I listed the Power Rankings next to their SRS Rank, just because.
Notes:
S Florida has a high ranking because they’ve played the Giants four of their nine games.
The same is true for Southcoast. They’ve lost all four games played, but two were against the Gold and the other two against the Giants. This time the SRS works because theoretically they’d lose to the Giants by 15 pts (lost by 11 & 17 pts, an average of 14) and 12 pts to the Gold (lost by 8 & 17 pts, an average of 12.5)

A bunch of fun stuff this week: First, the North Shore Tides were to play Jersey on the 1st after not playing since December so I added them back into the rankings last week. Turns out I was wrong and the Express played the Vipers. So goodnight Tides. Second, Gainesville lost to Jacksonville & South Florida by a combined 296 points which dropped them from 47 to 56 and dragged down anyone theyve played this year. Finally, Southcoast: How does a 0-6 team that has lost by an average of 17 plus points end up number 4 in the league. It is because theyve only played the Giants & the Gold. When you look at the scores and the projected margin of victory/loss you can see the SRS is close:
