The New York Islanders Ice Girls tradition has come to an end

What is wrong with having ice girls at hockey games. It is no different than cheerleaders at football games.

Now they want the rest of the NHL teams to stop using ice girls. Give me a break.

The tradition of Ice Girls on certain National Hockey team franchises is a bit of a peculiar one to some people, and the New York Islanders are using their move from Nassau Coliseum to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as an excuse to get rid of the Ice Girls tradition altogether. Islanders fans have been vocal over the past few years on the subject, and the team decided it was the right time to make a change.

Barclays Center chief communications officer Barry Baum addressed team decisions:

“We decided to go in a different direction. We held a number of meetings with our fans on Long Island to ensure we’d bring the best traditions to Brooklyn and we think they’ll be very happy with the result.” - Barry Baum

The Islanders were the first team to usher in Ice Girls back in 2001, and now look to be leading the charge in removing the idea of Ice Girls from the league.

A tradition stretching back all of 14 years. If it's more hassle than it's worth, why worry about it?
Old enough to remember when bashing the ABA was fun.
