(A Fan Question)Wasn't it is written on the NAL website that expansion teams had to be finalized by August 15th?

League response
The NAL would like to keep fans up-to-date as much as we can regarding League matters. The hot topic always at this time of year is expansion. While we would love to divulge all the markets we are in discussions with at this time, we cannot. Here is what we can say. The Jacksonville Sharks, Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, Columbus Lions and Jersey Flight have all signed 3-year NAL Membership Agreements. Monterrey has asked for more time to handle other business issues before turning in their membership to play in the NAL in 2018. Georgia is still in lease negotiations. Corpus Christi, Dayton and High Country will not return in 2018. The League is in the final steps of the lease negotiations in 5 new markets. This means we could have 5 new teams IF the leases are acceptable. Although late in the process, there is one additional team (making a sixth new team) that is now in the mix. The NAL is not concerned with the number of teams in our League as we are with the quality of ownership, operators and the buildings we play in as a League. Additionally, the NAL has adopted a policy of standard professionalism of uniformity in all we do. In 2018 League will have the same uniform supplier, minimum field standards, websites and signage standards, etc. We will do whatever it takes to make sure the quality of our product is at the highest standard of arena football. There is no hard deadline to complete expansion, but we expect the majority of our expansion to take place in the next 30-45 days. Thanks to all the great fans who care so much about the NAL!

A lot to take in here, first thing that jumps off the screen at you is just how uncertain the league is about its membership. Secondly why have the only three teams that are for sure sign a term of commitment when the league itself is an uncertain entity, and Third why attempt to have some type of standard in the second season if you failed to have one from the start, shouldn't that have already been set in stone year one.
And finally arena negotiations are pretty simple either you pay up front in full in most arena's today or at least your first two dates, anything else is not negotiable so what is there to talk about.
Appears Mexico simply wasn't willing to hear the crap about uncertain teams or that they would need to float payments for teams to travel to them again.

30 days we'll see exactly what from the league? tick tick he's coming (movie line) appropriate for the suspense here.

I don't think any of this is as easy as you might think.
1- I'd say the commitment part is so that potential expansion teams see a commitment and are more likely to join.
2 - The standard/uniformity is to attract league wide sponsors. They didn't in year one as they likely did not have time and could not be as picky
3- Yes there is uncertainty - that's the name of the game in Arena/Indoor FB

With AFL CBA uncertainty who knows what's at play here. What if the AFL implodes and say Philadelphia wants to continue? There's also the Orlando brand and franchise question. Getting the Predator brand from AFL may be a sticking point in negotiations. Or it could be stalling. I think losing Monterrey is an issue. Who knows, if they have 6 solid franchises that should work. They may even be talking to IFL as an 'eastern division' if all else fails. Its a drawn out wait and see.

4th I can admire your steadfastness, but there are certain times when the writing is on the wall.

1.I know and fully understand this game is a brute sport keep what you kill
they didn't have a good game plan going in recall that the Firebirds couldn't finish the season without league help,so why would you hear any conversation from them for season two. (if you have a standard )
2.They only have one team even in the conversation for a national sponsor and its in Florida. The league has nothing a national sponsor would be interested in..
3.Okay I'll give you some of the uncertainty argument, but if the league is promoting itself as an answer to some of those ill's within the sport, then turn around and contribute to that uncertainty sir well you get it

I hope they can pull it off,but the odds are against them. The only long term hope the league appears to have is a conversation with another as a division they only have 3 teams at this point, and a lot of maybe's and if's now they could play with that but it looks like a walking dead segment right now.

The Grizzlies recently left the NAL to join the AAL, what prompted the move?

Bryan: It was more or less getting back to what our original focus was when we formed the team. The plan was to have regional rivalries with local travel and that didn't happen with the NAL. When we originally formed the team, we were going to be part of the American Indoor Football League (AIF) but before that happened, the league folded. We decided we would join the Arena Developmental League which ended up being the National Arena League. Through those transactions we went from being regional to a league which had teams all over the place like in Monterrey, Mexico, and Corpus Christi. The NAL wants to grow into a nationwide league and were talking to teams in New York and on the West Coast and that wasn't what we envisioned for ourselves. We wanted to be in a league where our fans could travel a couple of hours and attend out away away games and the other team's fans could come up here. We didn't want to travel more than six hours and unfortunately, with the Nal that was our shortest trip.

They were at least willing to say it in a public forum.

Greensboro looks to be a go ,but if Portland were to really become a member city. The travel makes no sense at all 14 hours 856 miles between these two cities, the cost of operating in the league should scare anyone with good business practices, on the bottom line away from the NAL.

And what is Mexico to do with that travel, if they are even in the league?

In order to become a national league they should first sum up a region, they are a east coast based league. But without supporting cast for Mexico will stress the league again if Mexico is really in the league for 2018.

National Arena League
21 hrs ·

BREAKING NEWS: The National Arena League announces a 2018 Schedule Release to take place this week. Teams expect to begin regular season play in April 2018. See full story here:
ATLANTA, GEORGIA – After a successful first season of play in 2017, the National Arena League is slated to kickoff their 2018 campaign this coming April. Returning franchises include the defending Champion Jacksonville Sharks, Columbus Lions, and the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks. The additions of the Carolina Cobras (Greensboro, NC), Maine Mammoths (Portland, ME), and Massachusetts Pirates (Worcester, MA) round out the League teams.
With higher expectations and requirements set in League bylaws, League officials set out to expand in new markets, with ownership groups that reflected the league ideals. The 2017 League members, Monterrey Steel along with a previously announced franchise in Trenton, NJ (Jersey Flight) were unable to meet the league’s minimum obligations to be included on the 2018 NAL schedule

Now you talk about a joke :infun: this is funny. Mexico led the league in attendance last season and they couldn't meet the league's minimum obligations (really) the team payed for other league teams travel to Mexico last season, appears they wised up and refused to float deadbeat teams a second season. If the league really had standards this waiting around to announce new teams would have ended in September the (deadline) for a new franchise simply what a joke.

While Monterrey closed shop months ago and was only rethinking of coming back. If they aren't in, its for a legit reason. NJ Though did have financial issues.

There won't be any deadbeat teams this season based on the current league line up.

We'll see!

The travel makes no sense at all 14 hours 856 miles between two cities, that type of trip usually are for baseball and hockey teams that can indeed afford to travel like that, interim of players being available to make that journey.

How about that (NLL)

FILLING THE HOUSE: NLL attendance continues to grow, with preseason attendance this year up almost 20%, with a preseason record crowd of 12,857 in Calgary two weeks ago. The League's average attendance last year of almost 7,500 per match trailed only that of the NBA and NHL in terms of professional indoor sports - beating out indoor soccer, indoor football and the WNBA. It marked the third straight season of attendance growth, directly relating to a 12% increase in net box office receipts in 2017.

Indoor/arena football should be ashamed of themselves I'm talking about the ones who think of themselves as the big league players of the sport.

I think ashamed is a bit much but point taken. However keep in mind the 5 AFL teams plus 3 former AFL teams in other leagues, all together are roughly averaging 9-10k (NET).

The NAL greatly improved the travel situation with no Monterrey and starting to lump teams in NE and South. Look at the NLL - they have teams coast-to-coast. Is it a true bus league, no, but you can't lump all these teams on each other that easily. Let's see how 2018 goes.

[quote=""4th&long""]The ADL is now the NAL, a much better name IMO, not a name is a big deal

AFL implode has caused Indoor FB to drop a few pegs, but JAX - as a former AFL team and larger city, may be an anchor for another league.

JAX and Orlando are playing again. Waiting for Tampa Bay to come back and re-unite the Florida trio.
