And yet, some people believe people will watch football that's NOT the NFL, populated by teams with zero history and connections to their communities and players who simply aren't good enough to play professional football.

Because development or some sh**.
Old enough to remember when bashing the ABA was fun.

Thursday night's game was still network TVs highest rated program since the NBA Finals.

They're doing fine especially considering Hurricanes Irma and Harvey

Thursday’s Chiefs-Patriots NFL Kickoff Game had a 12.6 rating and 21.8 million viewers on NBC, per Nielsen fast-nationals — down 14% in ratings and 13% in viewership from Panthers-Broncos last year (14.6, 25.2M) and down 22% and 20% respectively from Steelers-Patriots in 2015 (16.2, 27.4M).

The Kickoff Game ranks as television’s highest rated and most-watched program since Game 5 of the NBA Finals in June (13.5, 24.7M). For the year, it ranks as the 17th-most watched sporting event behind that NBA game, the national championships of college football and college basketball, and 13 other NFL games (including two regular season windows).

Are you sure about that (Renandpat)

Sunday’s telecast was the lowest rated and least-watched Week 1 singleheader window in eight years, since CBS pulled a 7.1 and 11.4 million in 2009.

All three afternoon windows hit multi-year lows Sunday, with both games of the FOX doubleheader the lowest rated or least-watched in at least nine years.

News coverage of Hurricane Irma may have played a role. The Weather Channel alone averaged 4.3 million viewers from 1-8 PM ET Sunday (on the comparable day last year, the network’s top hour had 284,000).

ESPN trying to figure out way to adjust to cord cutting, they have started to look at ways to add more college game subscribers, remember Toys R us well ESPN could go away too, this affects the NFL in a major way.
