Major League Football failed to make its rent payment in March, April, May and June.
Dan Perka, chief counsel for the Lakewood Ranch developer, said Thursday that SMR hopes there will still be a happy ending to the story.

“We have gotten a lot of optimistic replies from them. They have sent us a copy of a letter from a funding group in the Far East, pledging $20 million and saying the money will be wired,” Perka said. “We are trying to work with Major League Football to keep their plan going, but felt that we needed to protect ourselves.”

Riiiiiight...

Turn out the lights. The party's over.

Hey, had to make it look good, right?

Didn't they get free rent for a while, at least?

I honestly believe they intended to have a league actually play, realized there was no way to pull it off when they could not generate investor interest, and only then decided to play fast and loose with the stock.

As some have said for a while, this league is OUT. OF. MONEY. And has been for a while.
Old enough to remember when bashing the ABA was fun.

MLFB's Lakewood Ranch offices were expected to fill with up to 50 employees as the start of league play approached, but the league was unable to solve financial problems. Herald file photo

"Um...did you send the rent check?"
"No. Did you?"
"Is the the SEC calling?"

Most of their incentives were contingent on them actually creating jobs and the economic impact of $5 million which was to be audited at the end of 2016. No training camp...no economic income.

But Murtha says what he has to say to Yourobserver.com:
Frank Murtha, the senior executive vice president for Major League Football, Inc., said Friday his company "is not going anywhere" although Schroeder-Manatee Ranch filed a suit in Manatee County Circuit Court to evict MLFB from its suite at 6230 University Parkway in Lakewood Ranch.

"The office is open," Murtha said. "Matters are more positive than portrayed."

Stock closed at $0.30, down 22% (but lots of stuff was down today because of Brexit).

What's funny is Nick Athan is a Trump supporter, according to his Twitter feed.

Man sure can pick 'em.
