Orlando City SC today announced the Club will launch a new National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) team in 2016, the Orlando Pride. In addition, the Club named former head coach of the Australian and U.S. women's national teams, Tom Sermanni, as head coach of the Pride.
Season tickets for the Pride's 2016 NWSL campaign go on sale today for Orlando City's MLS Season Ticket Members. 2016 Orlando Pride season tickets will go on sale to the general public at 1 p.m. on Oct. 25. Fans can visit http://www.Orlando-Pride.com for more information. Tickets start at $13 per game during the initial season ticket sales period for 10 home games.

"The name "?Orlando Pride' captures how we all feel about the City of Orlando, as well as firmly tying into the Lions family," said Founder and President Phil Rawlins. "The time is right for women's professional soccer here in Central Florida, and we are excited to launch this new team for 2016. We want to win championships and build one of the best women's teams in world soccer. We have taken a strong first step in this direction by naming Tom Sermanni as head coach of the Pride. Tom brings world class experience to our city, combined with the expertise to build a winning franchise. This is a thrilling time for our organization, our partners, and for fans in the "?Soccer Capital of the South.'

"With the successful launch of the MLS team, as well as the 2016 launch of the NWSL and USL teams, this region continues to reap the economic benefit of world class professional soccer."

"We are very excited to welcome the Orlando Pride as the second expansion club in the history of the National Women's Soccer League," NWSL Commissioner Jeff Plush said. "Orlando is a remarkable organization with an authentic club culture and a community that will help us continue to grow the league and provide more opportunities for female soccer players at the highest level. As we continue to build the overall fan base, we are thrilled to have a club in the Southeast to provide fans in the region with the opportunity to see and interact with our amazing players. We have no doubt Orlando will be a tremendous addition to the NWSL."

If you can't get marketing traction out of that, you're in trouble.

You can't get marketing traction when too many parents think "youth club to college to NATIONAL TEAM" and, also...

...the word is adidas has the lion logo and NWSL is a Nike league, so while the team is called the Pride, they can't use a lion on the Pride crest. I seriously need that crest explained to me. Nice ad for a dome on a lake.

Now, hold on, because where you CAN get marketing traction...

I know what Alex Morgan did in 2013. We haven't seen that Morgan since. So I see Megan Klingenberg in this deal (the Thorns really need a right back), so if Lindsay Horan has any sort of presence up front, Portland makes out like a bandit here. However, Morgan goes to a place that will need fans right away, and she's pretty good at that.
