CIF New Mexico stars fold

The new owners of the New Mexico Stars on Saturday opted to put the indoor pro football team on ice for the 2015 season and start immediately to reorganize for the 2016 season.

Tracy Duran and wife Crystal, who said they completed the paperwork to officially take over full ownership of the fourth-year franchise in January, said various mitigating circumstances prompted them to come to their decision.

Famous last words, "we'll be back next season, you can count on it".
Well I say, "don't bet the farm on it pa".

Here is the CIF response.

CIF Statement on the New Mexico Stars (From GoCIF.net)...

The Champions Indoor Football (CIF) regret to announce that the New Mexico Stars (Stars) will not play the CIF 2015 season. The Stars management team has been unable to meet the minimum requirement to play in the CIF. The CIF holds it’s member teams to a high standard to ensure our players and our staff are properly paid and insured. Commissioner Darlene Jones says “It is better that we make this change now before the season starts, than to be half way through the season and lose a team.

The other CIF owners have made the appropriate adjustments to their schedules and budgets to accommodate the change. Any questions or concerns should be directed to Commissioner Darlene Jones at darlene@gocif.net.

Rough break having the schedule thrown into some disarray with less than a week until the openers. I'm guessing the coach quitting was a symptom of the problem in New Mexico rather than the cause of the problem.

This isn't all that surprising in some ways ,but is in another the franchise fee for the league is or was before merger $5,000 with the letter of credit around $100k so affordable if you wish to still lose money or can accept the loses on the back end in the current economy . :)

Two words can stop $#!^ like this: Performance bonds. Make every team put up one year's operations into a performance bond. If the team can't, the team isn't admitted into the league. If something happens to a team during the season, the bond is used to operate the team for the rest of the year, then the team is either put up for sale or folded.
That's two teams that have folded before ever playing a down this season.

My fear is then you'd have like 10-12 teams spread across the US, and that's basically all that'd be left of indoor football. Of course, a couple of the lesser leagues wouldn't adhere to such a standard, and that's where all the mid-level operators would settle. That's not really improving things in the end.

Duke City Gladiators

So just two days after the Stars fold, the Duke City Gladiators show up and are looking for a league. They state that they are with the X-League.

And if they do not sell the 400 shares at a $1,000 each?
I wouldn't want to be stuck with their travel budget.
