The TRBL Board of Directors has given provisional approval for four new teams for the 2013 season. Those teams include the Blue Ridge Bison from Hendersonville, NC, the Hub City Lakers from Spartanburg, SC, the Cobras from Greensboro, NC, and HoopForLyfe, a travel team from Concord, NC. With provisional approval these teams have until December 1st to secure Home Venue dates and to make sure that they have everything in place to make sure to complete a full season. The 2013 League schedule will be released by December 15th and if a Provisional Team isn't ready to mover forward they will have to defer to 2014.

TRBL Approves New Teams, Releases Division Structure for 2013

December 4, 2012 - Raleigh, NC: The Tobacco Road Basketball League (TRBL) has announced that the Greensboro Cobras, Team HoopForLyfe, and the Hub City Lakers have been approved for full membership for the 2013 season.

The Cobras are brought by an ownership group led by Terry Cooper of Greensboro and will play home games at Greensboro College. Cooper brings basketball experience as a former college, U.S. minor league, and European player, as well as prior management experience in minor league basketball.

The Hub City Lakers are led by former Clemson standout and professional basketball player, Anthony Jenkins. Jenkins runs the Spartanburg International Sports Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps prepare disadvantaged athletes in the South Carolina upstate area prepare for competitive sports. The team will play games at Spartanburg High School.

Team HoopForLyfe, an experienced basketball organization from Concord, NC led by Christopher Wigham, will play as a travel team in 2013.

"We are very pleased to welcome these teams to the TRBL. They bring a lot of collective experience to the table and understand the mission of the TRBL. We look forward to competing against them on the court and partnering with them in the board room," says TRBL Commissioner and Fayetteville Crossover owner Patrick Dupree.

Sixty (60) TRBL regular season games will be played in 2013 in cities throughout the Carolinas including: Cary (NC), Wilmington (NC), Greensboro (NC), Ft. Mill (SC), Charlotte (NC), Jacksonville (NC), Lumberton (NC), Fayetteville (NC), and Spartanburg (SC). In addition to Team HoopForLyfe, the Johnston County Nighthawks (Smithfield, NC) will play as a travel team in 2013. The final schedule will be released later this month. The teams will play in two divisions in 2013. The East Division will include the Cary Invasion, the Wilmington Sea Dawgs, Big Texas, the Carolina Gladiators, the Fayetteville Crossover, and the Johnston County Nighthawks. The West Division will include the PrimeTime Players, Team HoopForLyfe, the Queen City Express, the Hub City Lakers, and the Greensboro Cobras.

The TRBL has also announced that two additional teams, the Blue Ridge Bison (Asheville, NC) and the Bull City Legacy (Durham, NC), will remain in provisional membership status for the 2013 season. Provisional members are eligible to play in TRBL exhibition games and participate in other TRBL events.

The TRBL will start its second season in April 2013. ScoreTRAX.com provides score broadcasting services for all TRBL games and technology services for all TRBL teams. League operations are funded through existing sponsorships, and qualified member teams are charged no league fees. I was told the new Facility is really nice but they are also going to still play a game or two at the regular arena. I'm be looking for you when we come May 4th.
