Wisconsin high school steals new Bucks logo design

A high school in Wisconsin just finished up construction on a new gym floor, which is awesome, but there's one problem: The school's court re-design looks similar to the logo of a certain NBA team in Milwaukee.

Elk Mound high school – home of the Mounders – has a brand new court that practically rips off the Bucks' new logos, including the main logo on the center of the court, and even the alternate. The school's principal, Paul Weber, sent out these tweets of the new design today.

A couple of years ago, a high school in Florida used the Florida State logo on its field (artificial turf). FSU took exception, saying it had to defend it's trademark, and the school was out thousands of dollars to redo the field. Have to be careful in this area.

I agree it is very similar. However, there are only so many ways to make a "buck" look different. Here are some obvious differences:

Team Colors(obvious)
Number of points on the buck(high school logo has nearly double the amount)
Width of nose, and mouth (eyes & ears almost identical)
Width & design on the chest. Both are quite different

Outside of the deer portion of the logo the circle, font and background aside from color are also nearly identical. This is not uncommon though. Go on any high school site that list multiple logos and you will see teams with nearly identical logos to college or pros.

The reporter is assuming the high school needs permission to use the logo but I think there are enough differences there that this wont be the case. The reporter also assumes that the high school logo was drawn up after the Bucks released their logo. It is not uncommon for high schools to spend months on having companies draw up a logo. Maybe the same designer created both logos. Who knows? I see no problem with it though.
