Big weekend for the flight!

Post by zeke41 » Fri Jun 17, 2011 8:06 pm

This weekend is a big one for the Flight. We face both Gainesville and Heartland in two must win games to get the 2nd playoff spot in the South.

Sunday should be a fun game. We got several Avalon Park businesses and individuals throughout to purchase tickets to enable us to offer this game for free! We're launching two of our Community Outreach programs at the game:

J's for A's: We'll be giving kids who get all A's on their report card an opportunity to win a free pair of Michael Jordan Sneakers each report card marking.

Not Afraid to Fly Mentorship Program: Allocating a free season ticket to every kid that writes an essay about what they want to be when they grow up. The package will also include a free customized Flight shirt, and placement on our upcoming Not Afraid to Fly section on our website. We'll be taking the submissions and partnering the kids with mentors within their field of choice so they can get feedback and mentoring from someone already operating in their career field.

On another note, we are finally starting to get scouts and agents from abroad interested in our program as well. Every home game has been filmed, and will be available on Youtube soon (some are already available).

This should be a very exciting weekend for us. Hopefully it includes a playoff shot!

I hope you bought insurance for Js for As. That could get expensive if kids start busting their butts (of course, that's ultimately a win for them and the community, but still...).

LOL...it will be done through raffle initially, so it won't cost us anything more than $150/report card marking period (I think I can handle that - :) ).

We're working on Footlocker, the Nike Outlets (there are 5 in Orlando alone) and a few other shoe companies to sponsor the program as well, at least to provide us with a discounted rate for the shoes so that we can provide more. I just met with a business in Avalon Park interested in covering the cost for this program too.

My hope is that it catches on, and we can offer a free pair to everyone within our sphere of influence that does get all A's (no A minuses either - LOL). The response has been phenomenal. I think we are on to something with this type of program!
