Not counting last weekend's games, I've been able to track down two thirds of the games. Cary has all their games & most teams other than Birmingham (as of last Friday) has some or all of their stats. Mark was nice to send me what he had a week ago.

Nice nod for Ernest Jones! It's crazy what opportunity can do for a player.

Our recap of the Championship and the final week of the regular season...

//www.oursportscentral.com/service ... id=4239327
(Orlando, FL) - After a week of suspense and uncertainty, the Florida Flight (5-6) fell to the Cary Invasion (11-1) in the 2011 CBL Championship game 131-101.

The Flight locked up the second-place playoff berth by defeating both the Gainesville Galaxy and the Heartland Prowl in the final week of the CBL regular season. While preparing to square off against the Prowl for the Southern Division Championship, CBL officials informed Owner and Head Coach Mark King they would instead play in the Championship game.

"Apparently the Prowl ran into some unforeseen financial issues and was unable to finish out their season," said King.

With little time to prepare, the Flight embarked on an 11-hour road trip at 4AM Friday morning to Cary, North Carolina to play for the CBL Championship against the Invasion that same day.

The Invasion took immediate command of the game on the first possession, and extended their lead to 11 by the end of the first quarter. The Flight clawed back to cut the lead to 6 midway through the second, but the Invasion scurried onto another run, extending the lead to 17 at the close of the first half.

The second half was more of the same. Despite the defensive efforts of Ernest Jones, who forced a game-high seven steals on the night, the Invasion continued to run up the score on the Flight, who clearly ran out of gas in the fourth quarter. "Ernest Jones was definitely one of the toughest guards we saw all year," said Mark Janas, Owner of the Cary Invasion. "But a 10-hour car ride makes it tough for any team to compete."

"We would have liked to have a day to recover from the long road trip, but you take what you are given," said King. "I was proud of my guys. They put forth their very best effort given the circumstances."

The Invasion's Freddie Little, also named the CBL MVP for the season at the conclusion of the game, led all scorers with 26. Charles Ward contributed 22 points; and Jonathan Moore also added 21 points and collected a game-high 13 rebounds. Head Coach MarQus Johnson was also named CBL Coach of the year.

The Flight, boasting a squad of six rookies, relied heavily on the veteran play of Cordell Jeanty, Fred Meeks, Ernest Jones and Garvin Gordon, who tallied 81% of the team's entire scoring output. Jeanty led the way with 25 points and a team-high 9 rebounds. Meeks followed closely behind with 23; and Jones, named CBL Player of the Week for the final regular season week of play, chipped in 21 to complement his game-high number of steals.

Despite the loss, King views season two for the Flight a noteworthy success.

"This was definitely a good learning experience for us," said King. "Taking a team with six rookies to the championship game after an 0-3 start is a success in any league. Now we know just how important home court advantage is. We'll do what we can to fix that next season."

Although the CBL season has drawn to a close, the Flight will remain active. Plans to host several exhibition games during the off-season will be announced in the coming weeks. The team will also launch a Junior Flight League for area youths, and the coaching staff and players will be available for individual training sessions during the summer for a nominal fee.

Flight Announce Jr. Flight Youth Basketball League

Post by zeke41 » Sun Jul 24, 2011 6:00 pm

//www.oursportscentral.com/service ... id=4254866

We're kicking off our Jr. Flight League in September. If teams are not doing this, they need to consider. I'd like to have every CBL team start a Jr. League. At the end of the season, maybe we can have a Jr. CBL Tournament, with each Jr. CBL team's Champion traveling to and competing in a Jr. CBL championship tournament. I think the kids would really enjoy an experience like this.

(Orlando, FL) - The Florida Flight is proud to announce the formation of the new Junior Flight Youth Basketball League.

The league, which will run from September through October, will accept co-ed registrants between the ages of 9-17. The schedule will include a seven-game season plus a playoff and championship. Games will be held at River Run Christian Church in Chuluota, Florida, just east of the Avalon Park community.

The Junior Flight League will become the premier youth basketball league of Orlando. As with other leagues, a complimentary reversible jersey and individual trophies for champions will be included in the registration price.

Each team will also be coached by Flight players and staff, giving participants the unique experience of being coached by professionals. The league will also post individual and team statistics online, announce a Player of the Week award, and webcast the Championship games at the end of the season. Championship players will also receive a free season ticket voucher for the next Florida Flight season.

"With minimal roster spots available for school teams, a lot of kids go without an opportunity to play organized basketball," said Mark King, Owner, President and Head Coach of the Flight. "We wanted to help fill that void, but also go beyond the standards of other leagues and create a premier opportunity that gives kids a truly unique playing experience."

The Junior Flight hopes to have 12 teams split into three divisional age groups: 9-11, 12-14, and 15-17. Each team will have a maximum of 10 players, providing ample playing time for each player. The long-term vision is to partner with other minor league teams that also host junior leagues, and give annual champions an additional opportunity to compete against those teams in a tournament.

"I'd like to see all of the other CBL teams start a junior league," said King. "I think it would be amazing to provide an opportunity for kids to actually go to a Junior CBL tournament and play against teams from the other CBL cities."

The cost of the Junior Flight League is $125.00. The Flight are offering an Early Bird special of $100.00 until July 31. The team is also providing a $25 discount for multi-participant discounts for families that register more than one kid into the league. The Registration deadline is August 22.

Interested participants can sign up and pay online now at http://www.flighthoops.com/register-online. Checks or money orders can also be made payable and mailed to:

Flight Basketball, LLC
P.O. Box 621201
Orlando, FL 32862

Area businesses interested in investing directly into the lives of these kids can sponsor a team for as little as $100. Benefits include having your team named after your business, getting your logo and business name on team jerseys, and banner placement. Each sponsor will also receive a team photo with their logo to be displayed in your place of business. Interested applicants should contact sponsorships@flighthoops.com for more information.

Here's some recent video footage of us doing another clinic with some neighboring churches at Mission Interact:

You've gotta stay active in the off season if you are seriously trying to do this the right way!

We finally made some time to carve a place out for The King's Offspring, the multi-talented Hip-Hop group that emcees all of our games. I'm extremely proud of these guys, and it's been a real blessing to partner with them for the past two years as they've attempted to market through the underground music scene and gain a local following. Now these guys are getting paid gigs, including the Vans Warped Tour in West Palm Beach a couple of weeks ago.

Here's a link to their content on our site, with music, videos, etc.

Toys for Tots game

Post by zeke41 » Wed Nov 30, 2011 8:18 am

Here's our flyer for our upcoming 2nd Annual Toys for Tots Charity Basketball Game. It might be time, Paul, to move this thread out of the CBL forum and back into the Men's Basketball forum where it started. We'll be announcing some pretty cool stuff in the next week or so.
