Austin –Former Dallas Cowboy and University of Texas player Chris Duliban has been appointed Head Coach of the Austin Turfcats for its inaugural season in the Southern Indoor Football League, Vice President and General Manager Ronald Oswalt announced today.

Joining Duliban as Assistant Coach will be Kerry Cash, another former Longhorn who played with the Indianapolis Colts.

"The Turfcats will be led by two skilled and highly-respected individuals whose credentials as leaders and winners speak for themselves,'' Oswalt said. “We pride ourselves at the Austin Turfcats in breaking new ground in how we'll play as well as in creating our team leadership." "Chris Duliban and Kerry Cash bring the kind of coaching experience and passion for Austin football that is the basis of the SIFL.''

Duliban was an all-city running back at Spring Woods High School, but was converted to an outside linebacker at Austin. After "scratching and fighting," Duliban started his senior year and earned second-team All-Southwest Conference honors as well as the D.X. Bible Team Spirit Award in 1985.

He was drafted by Tom Landry and the Dallas Cowboys in 1986 in the 12th round (307th overall) and spent a year with the Buffalo Bills in 1988. His coaching career began at Hyde Park Baptist High School in 1996. He earned his first indoor coaching opportunity as the defensive coordinator of the Texas Terminators of the Indoor Professional Football League in 1999.

Duliban added, “I am excited and honored to be the Head Coach for the Turfcats inaugural season. I love the city of Austin and the central Texas area. As a resident of this area for over 28 years, I am glad to bring professional football to central Texas.”

Last season, Duliban served as Head Coach for the Centex Barracudas of the Intense Football League in Belton, Texas. He also guided the team to their first playoff victory in team history versus the Alaska Wild.

Cash, a native of San Antonio, Texas, was drafted by Colts in the fifth round of the 1991 NFL Draft. He also played for the Oakland Raiders and Chicago Bears.

January 15, 2009
Media contact: J. Ronald Oswalt 866-969-8228 (TCAT)
turfcats@gmail.com

Austin – In a continuing effort to add talent and strive for an SIFL championship, the Austin Turfcats of the Southern Indoor Football League have scheduled a free agent tryout camp on Saturday, January 24, 2009. The tryout camp will be held at Hutto High School in Hutto, Texas. The camp will be under the direction of Turfcats Head Coach Chris Duliban and his coaching staff.

The format will consist of a variety of physical tests, including the 40 yard dash, 20 yard shuttle and the standing long jump. Participants will be timed and measured in all of these events. After an evaluation of each participant’s times and scores, the group will be reduced to a number of individuals who will be asked to participate in select physical drills. Another evaluation will leave the remaining to participate in skill drills which are related to Indoor Football. There will not be any contact drills.

The cost of the camp is $50 cash per individual. Registration will begin promptly at 9:00 am until 10:00 am. A thirty minute period of supervised warm-up drills will follow. Testing will begin at 10:30 am.

The camp is open to anyone who has completed their college eligibility and is physically able to perform the drills. A waiver and release form will be signed by all participants stating that they are physically able to participate and not hold the Austin Turfcats liable for any injury suffered during the camp.

Participants need to provide their own workout attire. Shorts and t-shirts along with turf or tennis shoes are recommended for the camps. Rubber molded football cleats no longer than one half inch will be permitted for tryouts. Metal football cleats are absolutely forbidden and you will not be allowed to participate.

Participation in the free-agent camp is not an offer of employment but merely an evaluation. The Austin Turfcats are not responsible for travel or lodging expenses. Food will not be provided.

If you have any questions, please contact the Austin Turfcats General Manager Ronald Oswalt at roswalt@turfcats.com.

Turfcats Press Conference Successful In Austin
January 15, 2009

Austin – It was standing room only at a packed press conference today for the new Austin Turfcats of the Southern Indoor Football League. Media from throughout central Texas crowded into the Four Season’s Hotel to see not only the new coaching staff but also some key players being introduced.

Vice President/General Manager Ron Oswalt explained why the SIFL business model is far superior to those attempts by prior teams. “We have season tickets for a family of four available at $99. That breaks down to $4.12 per ticket. How many families can go out to a football game for that much?”

Oswalt introduced Head Coach Chris Duliban and his new assistant coach Kerry Cash. Both coaches are products of the University Of Texas.

Fans at today’s press conference were treated to a surprise as two of the players for the new team also turned out. Corry Perez will play defensive back and is a product of Blinn Junior College in Brenham where he was a wide receiver for two years. Perez told the gathering, “This is the most exciting feeling in the world to play at home. I just thank God everyday for this opportunity.”

Darrick Wallace will also play for the Turfcats who ran track at Grambling State while also playing for their football team for four years. Wallace has played indoor and arena football for seven seasons for teams like the Katy Copperheads and Shreveport Battlewings. “I feel pretty good going into this season. Hopefully, we get an experience quarterback who can catch on quick to indoor football,” said Wallace.

Along with other staff introduced at the press conference, the Turfcats announced that the first player tryout s will be held on Saturday, January 24th at Hutto High School. Entry forms will soon be posted on the website at http://www.turfcats.com
