Actually, no, there wasn't such a time. Throughout the original MISL's lifetime (1978-1992), its average attendance never got within 1,500 of the NBA's during a season. Close, but no cigar. There were instances where an MISL outdrew the NBA team in its market on an average basis, but very few times.

EXTREMELY WRONG!!!! You're telling the world that there were "very few times" that the MISL beat the NBA and I'm telling you you're WRONG!!!! The MISL in several cities for several years beat the NBA or NHL , or were very competitive.

This is wisdom and history. Sad how so many of today's personalities tend to believe the MISL was/is only a niche sport. Indoor soccer done professionally (yes that does mean spending money) can and have either beat the NBA or NHL, or have held it's own. Remember, the MISL had a high of only 14 teams. I actually did some research to prove my point.

2 questions:

How much of these tickets were given away, and what price were these tickets sold, compared to the competition?

My recollection of the Original MISL, is that there were few giveaways (at least I know that the Blast of that era did very few). As for the cost, I'm sure the NBA and the NHL probably cost more, but I think you're getting away from the point.

The comparable interest of the money spending, arena sports fan during that time period (in several cities, for several years) favored the MISL. You should also be advised that the MISL during the 1980s played between 20 and 28 HOME GAMES; so this was no passing fade. When the MISL worked at its highest level, it either beat out the NBA or NHL or held its own in several cities for several years. This is a fact that can't be questioned because the numbers don't lie.

In addition, the Original MISL should never be compared to the indoor soccer leagues that you've watched for the past 20 or so years.

Look, seriously. I'm only going to tell you this one more time: You're an idiot. Asserting something and putting lots of exclamation points after it doesn't make it true.

I said "beat." You expand it to "beat or were very competitive." That wasn't the premise, idiot.

Awesome. So Baltimore and Washington are the same market like Rockford is Chicago? Is that it? The Bullets and capitals play in Washington, DC. Invalid example.
St Louis Steamers.............Blues
80-81..15,219..................14,603
81-82..17,107..................14,433
82-83..14,693 .................12,612

85-86..10,189..................12,230
86-87..7,038....................13240
Steamers outdrew the Blues from 1979-1984. I believe I said that.
Cleveland Force................Cavaliers
80-81...4,884...................5,475
81-82...5,001...................5,769
82-83...6,609...................3,916

86-87...14,111.................10,905
87-88...11,279.................12,313
Force outdrew the Cavs from '82 to '87. I believe I said that.
Kansas City Comets.........Kings
81-82...11,058................6,843
82-83...14,692................8,301
83-84...15,786................9,031
84-85...12,917................6,410
Comets outdrew the Kings from '81 to '85. I believe I said that.
SD Sockers.....................Clippers
82-83...8,081..................3,875
84-85...9,595..................9,369
I believe I had that one, too.
Chicago Sting..................Bulls
82-83....9,201.................7,343
84-85....10,628...............11,887
I believe I had that one, too.

So, yeah, those were the instances I mentioned. Steamers, Force, Comets, Sockers, Sting. Five teams. 12 team seasons total. Out of 71 team seasons.

What difference does it make? The MISL had it's time and that time has long since been gone.

C'mon Sam, you can do better than the name calling. The bottom line is you made an outlandish comment and I provided you with some education on the matter. You were wrong. Trying to clean up your lack of knowledge on the history of MISL 1, shouldn't give you the right to lash out with invectives.

You made a comment that was short sighted and void of facts and I just taught a history lesson. Bottom line.

Now, you are a great debater because you don't back down. But in this case, you were just plain wrong.

You're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.

SHAME
