Great freakin' start for the MASL

Post by nksports » Wed Nov 02, 2016 9:26 pm

Some really underwhelming numbers to start the season. Either San Diego didn't even bother to report its numbers or nobody showed up. (I wouldn't have even noticed the MASL season started, but I appear to still be on their e-mail list despite both our area teams in the last few years going under).

I know I've been on this rant for a while, but it's time to concentrate entirely on the outdoor game and let arena soccer ride off into the sunset.

They actually won 12-1 against Turlock.

If you look at the official scoresheets you will see that they deleted the entire line where the attendance would go.

The Sockers' press release for the game says "over 3000 fans in attendance".

So here's how the teams did in "filling" their arenas so far, with reported attendance followed by capacity... :)

KC 3302 (5800)
Ontario 3217 (11089)
SD 3000 (16100)
Tacoma 2871 (6500)
Dallas 2191 (8100)

It's not getting much better:
Team GP Average Total (capacity) % of Cap.
1 Baltimore 2 5,967 11,934 11,000 54.3
2 Sonora 3 4,577 13,732 8,600 53.2
3 Milwaukee 1 4,278 4,278 9,500 45.0
4 Kansas City 3 3,632 10,896 5,800 62.6
5 San Diego 2 3,299 6,598 12,920 25.5
6 Chicago 2 3,198 6,396 8,362 38.2
7 Syracuse 2 2,825 5,651 6,159 45.9
8 St. Louis 2 2,655 5,310 9,643 27.5
9 Tacoma 2 2,623 5,247 6,500 40.4
10 El Paso 2 2,400 4,800 5,250 45.7
11 Ontario 2 2,346 4,692 9,736 24.1
12 Cedar Rapids 3 2,056 6,170 5,300 38.8
13 Florida 1 2,048 2,048 8,178 25.4
14 Dallas 3 2,046 6,138 6,006 34.1
15 Harrisburg 3 1,316 3,948 7,318 18.0
16 Turlock 2 550 1,100 700 78.6
17 Baja 3 382 1,148 200 191.0
I suppos Baja is the winner here, but I don't see how many of these teams are making money at this point.

Note: the Dallas Sidekicks folded. Despite a statement from the league saying they're working on coming back next year, it looks like this is a permanent end to this franchise.
