Chi-Town Shooters

Post by Ken, Steelheads fan » Fri Feb 19, 2010 9:46 pm

I'm going to attend my first minor league hockey game Sunday, February 21st. I knew about the rink facility where the Chi-Town Shooters play in Dyer, Indiana but I didn't know about the Shooters until a hockey night promotion at the ballpark in Gary, Indiana. That proves it. It pays to promote.

I hope to have pics of my experience since I love photographic records. How else can I prove I was there??? 8)

Yeah Ken, I think Purdue's D-2 hockey program uses that arena too.

All the area high schools with hockey programs use that arena as well. D-2??? I suppose that would be Purdue's Calumet campus in Hammond, In. They're moving up. I remember when they were NAIA.

Shooters vs. Battle Creek pics

Post by Ken, Steelheads fan » Mon Feb 22, 2010 2:27 am

Exciting game. The Battle Creek Hitmen (correction: Revolution) won 6-5 in a shootout. The paid crowd announced was upward of 700. I don't think the place holds that many, but if they paid then they paid. The announcer didn't say anything about them showing up, just that they paid. Lots of boy and girl scouts showed up though and the place was pretty packed.

Apparently, I was sitting in the section for players' girlfriends and wives. They didn't seem at all interested in the game until late in the third period.

The broadcast team. Battle Creek is in the dark jerseys.

Reason: Detroit was the HITMEN. Battle Creek is the Revolution.

Nice job Ken.

Question though: Battle Creek Hitmen?

I thought the AAHL team was the Revolution. Unless this is some sort of a fill-in team.
Adios, OSC message boards. (2007-2017)

You're absolutely correct. I'm basing my information on the Chi-town website. The Detroit Hitmen were scheduled to play, but they folded if I remember correctly. That's why I'm called Ken, Steelheads fan. I'm not up to date on the Shooters. 8)

...and speaking of Steelheads, that's GARY basketball Steelheads (not Idaho). The very first person I saw in the parking lot was another longtime Steelheads fan.

I'm going to correct the name.

Very nice pics Ken. Looks like a nice arena too.
The Purdue I was referring are the Boilermakers.
A couple of their home games have been in Dyer.
A couple others have been in Indy. The Boilers
have no ice facility in West Lafayette. Their club
team recently was moved up to D-2.

Ah, the big main campus.

Well, West Lafayette is not extremely far away from Dyer, IN either. About 80 miles. The arena, the Midwest Training Center, is enormous. There is another side also with bleachers and the size of the ice rink. There was gymnastics going on while the hockey game was going on on the other side.
