Two of Evansville’s Big Guns Look for a Spot in the Streets of Laredo

Post by AAHL_fan01 » Wed Feb 03, 2010 6:09 pm

EVANSVILLE, IN - Even though they wouldn’t be caught dead with a white sport coat and a pink carnation, two members of the Evansville IceMen will be walking the Streets of Laredo this weekend. The obscure Marty Robbins reference aside, Ryan Ford and TJ Schneider are headed to Texas to try out with the Laredo Bucks of the CHL. With the Bucks facing a rash of recent injuries, coach Terry Ruskowski was looking for guys who could step in a be productive, and offered to give the two a shot.

Evansville’s all-time leading scorer looks to impress yet another AA team as he heads south. Ford, the 5’9” Co-MVP of the AAHL All-Star Game, spent two games with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL recently and has used that experience as motivation to get another crack at the AA ranks. “I’m just really excited for another opportunity to prove myself to coaches at higher levels and hopefully get a chance to help a club at the AA level,” said Ford.

Schneider, a native of Spring City, PA, takes his North-South power forward game south after coming over to the Icemen from the now-defunct Chicago Blaze. The 6’4” 220 pound winger played collegiately for Utica College and attended training camp with the Fort Wayne Komets of the IHL. Schneider says, “This is a great chance to get some exposure to the higher leagues and an opportunity to show Coach Ruskowski what I can do. I’m really grateful and looking forward to the challenge.”

Adds Ford, “We want to thank the Evansville Icemen for the opportunity to give this a shot and thank the fans for all the support they give us on a nightly basis. Playing hard for them is what prepares us for opportunities like this.”

If they don't make it, will they "bang the drum slowly and play the fife lowly"?

Nice press release. Somebody with some creativity took a little extra time to write something that catches the reader. Kudos to the IceMen for this one.
