That has to do with the NFL lockout getting resolved and not financials.

I think it's reasonable to say that things are dire in the UFL. Some of last year's bills are still apparently not paid. Keep your eyes on OSC around noon ET for a release from the league addressing the situation. The commissioner will participate in a media conference call this afternoon.

Is this clear with their sponsors, who expected a certain number of games? Will they get THEIR money back? Are they going to be told a partial refund is in order (which by the way is probably not in the contract)?

When this league folds, and it will, the NFL CBA being 10 years means no serious competitor or rival league will rise up during that time, due to the damage caused by the UFL, and that any league will have to be in the spring, as a developmental league, run by the NFL itself or the NFL partnering with a group. Since the NFL starting a developmental league probably means they need the NFLPA's blessing, nothing will likely happen until the next CBA expires in 10 years.

Had the UFL been better organized, who knows, maybe they could have been that partner and they could have worked themselves into this CBA. They're not going to amend the CBA for something this big.

I think after 10 years a rational plan to start a spring developmental league, with the backing of the NFL, is not implausible at all. Do it right and each NFL team can have a short-season of 6 games (teams in the own division), in non-NFL cities near their own cities in the spring. The point is not to have a full-blown season, it's to develop players and market to recruit more NFL fans.

That could work if done right, but it will take 10 years to build up an urge to try another serious minor football league.

(GDFL? PLEASE. Can't even spell the team in my backyard right on their website.)

How desperate is the UFL? The commissioner admitted during a conference call that if the NFL lockout ends Thursday, he wants to be in the NFL offices Friday to discuss the NFL acquiring the UFL.
