Jay Gruden to be named Florida Tuskers head coach

Post by Fran » Tue Feb 02, 2010 11:02 pm

Jay has won championships as a arena football player and arena football head coach. He did a great job with the Tuskers offense last season. Great hire.

A Gruden looks to be returning to the sidelines as a head coach.

Sources tell BHSN's David Baumann that Jay Gruden will be named head coach of the Florida Tuskers, of the United Football League.

Gruden served as offensive coordinator to Jim Haslett for the Tuskers' inaugural UFL season, when the team finished the regular season with a 6-0 record, before losing to Las Vegas in overtime in the championship game. After the season ended, Haslett left the Tuskers to become the Washington Redskins' defensive coordinator.

Prior to joining the Tuskers staff, Gruden was a player and/or coach in the Arena Football League for over 15 years. After leading the Tampa Bay Storm to four Arena Bowl titles as quarterback, he was the head coach of the Orlando Predators (where he won two more league championships).

Gruden also served as an offensive assistant, under his brother Jon, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2002-'08.
