They are a scam, they supposebly played Pee Dee last weekend but the team didn't have WV Angels colors or Uniforms with Angels on then saw a picture where the team had reversibe jerseys with Outlaws printed on them. Then I have a friend that owns a Minor League team that contacted the PBL and this story and he was told directly they knew about the story but it was untrue because WV is a functioning team and played Pee Dee then today the game between WV and Lynchburgh was canceled. Doesn't matter how good teams are in a league because there are some nice franchises in Minor League Basketball but all there teams just being put together or making Minor league teams in a month doesn't work and make the whole league in general look bad. A Minor League team isn't built with a tryout, two weeks of practice, and getting a communities support playing recreational league games.

The Real Story about the Viper Game

Post by stevemerk » Mon Jan 13, 2014 1:01 pm

I found out what happened with the game in South Carolina. Scott Henderson of the PBL wired Daniel Hicks $1000 or more to take team to South Carolina to play game. Daniel Hicks contacted two players from Florence South Carolina to meet him there to play. Then he called a player named Brian to play. He asked Brian from South Carolina to bring players with him. Brian brought four players. So six players from South Carolina met Daniel Hicks at Pee Dee Vipers to play game. Daniel Hicks promised to pay them all.

Daniel Hicks gave them West Virginia (not Angel) uniforms to play the game in. Then Daniel Hicks split right after game and left with all the money!!!
So, Hicks got a Grand, drove himself to South Carolina and back and pocketed all the excess money which would be at least $700.

I do not know exact amount Scott Henderson wired Daniel Hicks, but it was at least $1000 because that is what Scott Henderson was trying to wire Coach Steve initially to do it.

Brian said they were severely outmatched and the place was packed with fans and that it was a total embarrassing blowout. Brian said he originally went to West Virginia way back in October or November to tryout. Hicks sent a contract to Brian and about five others and told them they were on the team. They had a different coach at the time. Then Daniel Hicks brought in coach Steve and Steve wanted to look at all players at a workout. So, Brian and those original four other players would not go back to work out for Steve because they had already been there and had been promised a contract. That is how Daniel Hicks knew about them and that they lived right there in South Carolina.

Daniel Hicks called them at 8pm Friday night before the game, to play the game the next day. He drove to South Carolina alone with the Money wired to him by Scott Henderson then split right after the game and paid no one. I am sure he told Scott Henderson he was renting a van and bringing players from West Virginia.

To date, there have been at least 25 players ( probably more ) from all over the country duped into driving or flying to Charleston, SC on their own dime under the pretense they were trying out for a legitimate team ( Most of them paid a tryout fee - I hear $100 ). None of them received housing or meals.

Apparently, the PBL is still pretending this team exists. Their current story is the Angels home game was cancelled because their home court was being used for water distribution. Nevermind, the same court was used for basketball games this past weekend.

After a quick search on Daniel Hicks, many wonder what the PBL officials were thinking dealing with him. And its not hard to find out what he did just a few years ago. If he had any money though, he would be an ABA-caliber team owner.

Really goes to show how far PBL sunk. They're not much better than any other alphabet league.
