In the most karmically wonderful result in the history of American soccer, the Brooklyn Italians defeated New York Cosmos B 3-2 last night to eliminate Rocco Commisso's mouth from the US Open Cup.

The other two NASL teams in NPSL clothing did win, and will play in the first round on Wednesday night.

The remnants of the NASL are playing - as "NPSL" sides - in the zero-round of the US Open Cup (the round they forced by suing US Soccer) tonight. While I'd like to believe that justice will prevail and all three NASL clubs will lose, the reality is that all three teams are better than their opponent...

This isn't a surprise - the ECHL plays a mostly-regional schedule, except for those teams that want to travel, and they'll book them a short swing in another area.

What's going to be more fun to watch is the anticipated media battle between AAF and the XFL. AAF co-founder Charlie Ebersol is the son of XFL 1.0 co-founder Dick Ebersol, who happens to be one of Vince McMahon's few non-wrestling friends. Charlie produced the pending ESPN "30 for 30" about the XFL....
