Bectond, your post is the first one that I've actually been able to see that explains to me what a D-League roster looks, or 'could' look like. You're right, it's not that bad a paper roster. Not sure what level of Europe it would compete with, but surely do okay or as as you say, competitive at the...

Well, that may be true, but the NBA doesn't 'own' the D-League. In several cases local businessmen or groups own the teams. What does a local owner want? To win. When you win, you get more sponsors, you get bigger crowds, you make more money. Or do you just accept the role of the NBA as your overlor...

I think I agree with that statement. Is there a Mission Statement for the D-League that the NBA has posted? I see where the Ft Wayne team is playing in a 12,000 seat arena. I don't understand that logic--if you put even 6,000 people in there it will not have a great atmosphere. Maybe there is no whe...

I thought the max salary was $15,000? But what's the difference with $18,000. I agree with the basic premise though: if the D-League is the best minor league in the world, I think that's what they are saying, well, how do the classify the D-League vs some of the leagues in Europe. I haven't seen a D...

Free Agents?
Can a team sign anyone, i.e., a free agent, once the season starts? Does the $15,000 salary cap apply to everyone, so if your team is playing poorly, can you bring in a guy who is playing in Europe? Or can you do this, but have to have him drop his salary if it is more than $15,000? And in the D-Lea...

I would keep the regional extent of the league smaller and tighter; this means less traveling and thus less traveling expense. All games on Saturday or Sunday (with a few, but regular mid-week games to encourage the business community to get involved). All game time starts at 3pm but no later than 6...
