Atlantic City to host AHL All Star Game

Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall has scored another coup in its quest to attract a full-time minor league hockey team to the venue by announcing it will host the American Hockey League’s 2012 All Star Classic on January 29-30, 2012.

Why I now hate the NY Mets

NY Yankees want to put their AAA ballclub in Newark, NJ for one season while their Scranton ballclub refurbishes their stadium... Mets veto the idea. Why? The move would help Newark economically and be a big boost to the downtown Bears and Eagles ballpark Exactly...how much would the Mets suffer if ...

RIP: The Trenton Devils

Can't say I'm surprised...this once proud hockey franchise blew it when they affiliated with the Devils. In brief, most of the fans that turned out for the Trenton Titans were Flyers fans. Once Trenton went with the "North Jersey Devils" a lot of Trenton's most avid supporters lost interes...

Newark Bears finale

My gut tells me that this will be the Newark Bears last season and the ballpark will be torn down...sad...but, still a lot of great memories...much like the folks who followed the Newark Bears in the 20s, 30s, and 40s...I have great memories of the Newark Bears circa 1998-2011. Most vocal fans in mi...

Hockey returns to Atlantic City

Saw the Trenton Devils vs Wheeling at historic Convention Hall in Atlantic City yesterday...about 2,500 folks showed up... What a great venue...not sure if pro hockey will ever return to Atlantic City but Boardwalk Hall is a classic arena...beautiful place... "Nucky" Johnson of HBO's Board...

Hard to believe that ballpark will go dark...the NJ Cardinals once drew huge crowds. I remember being able listen to Cardinal games on AM radio with Phil Pepe (prominent NY sports journalist) doing the color...

Newark Bears in the Can Am League

Heard the rumor last night during the York Revolution vs Bridgeport Bluefish game...supposedly going to happen next year or 2012.

Struggling Atlantic League teams seem to go to the Can-Am League and then they die...

York games on the Internet

York broadcast last night's game vs Somerset on the internet. Great game with play-off intensity. York crowd was really pumped. Props to the Revolution...I have to agree that on paper Bridgeport has the edge but emotionally, I'd say York has the edge...city of York really seems to have rallied behin...

Lakewood BlueClaws

Nice effort this season in making the SAL Championships for the 2nd year in a row. Friday's game (2-1 BlueClaws loss) before an enthusiastic crowd of 7,335 in Lakewood was one of the most exciting minor league ballgames I've ever seen. Last night, attendance crowd inexplicably dropped to around 3,00...

Well, I was recently at a Lakewood BlueClaws game and spoke with a Lakewood employee that formerly worked for the Surf. He indicated that a short-season team might work in AC...but, playing in the Sandcastle is not really an option...absent major capital improvements. The best bet is a new stadium l...
