Not sure what to make of Woolpert but this Tulsa team has been awful. They play hard, but they truly stink.

Calling the team Maine is smart because it shows that it's the "State" pro basketball franchise. Utah does it with the flash and Idaho does it with the Stampede. I think in places without a known geographical identity [unlike say Fort Wayne, Austin], it makes sense to call it Maine. I wond...

I agree with bechtond. The Suns may have had a gripe, but Sarver should be thinking about owning a D-League then. Some D-League teams are better to be self-governed and independent, but for someone who is trying to consistently stay in contention, owning your own D-League team is the way to go. Thos...

And truthfully the over 30 crowd that is currently in the D-League, is there because they are segueing out of their playing careers and into basketball operations (coaches, scouts, player development, etc...) Guys like Mateen Cleaves, Billy Thomas, Darvin Ham and Randy Livingston are future D-League...

IIRC, I think the goal will be to get to 30 first with parent clubs most important. Portland is a guaranteed at this point. The people involved are top notch in every capacity and the NBA wants to tap the Celtics ties. The problem with Manchester is this: If they don't get the Celtics affiliation (w...

2009-10 NBA Expansion

With the D-League season coming to a close in less than 24 hours (it's only 12:27 AM here in LA as of this post), I figured it would be a good idea to take a look at the next step in the D-League's evolution. Some things we know already. a) Erie and Reno will begin play in 2008-09, bringing the tota...

The D-League expands to Erie, PA and will be the Cavaliers affiliate for sure solely. This brings the D-League up to 16 teams and possibly 17, if Cedar Rapids and Crain can get the dates squared away. So let's just say there are 17 teams next year. I think the divisions would look like this. Southwe...

Cedar Rapids possibly getting a D-League team as well? I just read this at the Sporting News and it's from someone who seems real dialed in to Iowa sports, so I wonder if this is accurate. If it is, it stands to reason that Omaha is probably not going to happen now and they make shoot instead for To...
