The one kicker that could help Birmingham is whether having a team there could help Hawks ticket sales in Atlanta. You would assume Gwinnett is a captive market for the Hawks, and putting a NBDL team is redundant from a ticket sales perspective.

Since the re-do and bringing over the teams form the CBA, the D-League has been pretty stable. That would tell me the teams are doing OK.

MLB teams play college teams in exhibition games with regularity in spring training. I remember the CBA Albany Patroons played the barnstorming show team Harlem Wizards in pre-season. Such a game wouldn't prove a thing.

Teams should be able to loan a player to another D-League affiliate, if that isn't possible under the current system.

I doubt you will get all the NBA teams to have an affiliation until it is possible to get players out of high school to go to the D-League and develop, and you reduce the rosters of the NBA teams back to 12. The D-League is a lot like the old CBA was, a "spare parts" and league to develop ...
