Default Flex's Farmer earns PBL Most Valuable Player honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.—Jemal Farmer of the 2013 Premier Basketball League champion Bloomington Flex has been named the league’s Most Valuable Player for both the regular season and the playoffs.
Farmer, a 6’5” forward from the University of Arkansas, averaged 20.3 points per game during the regular season, when he shot 56% from the floor and 57% from three-point range.
Farmer, who played for the Flex in 2012 when they were the Central Illinois Drive, joined the team in 2013 on April 2, after the Flex got off to a 1-2 start. The team promptly won nine of its next eleven regular-season games, vaulting the Flex into the playoffs.
“We got off to a slow start, and we were just starting to find our way when Jemal joined us,” said Scott Henderson, Flex President/CEO. “Jemal immediately brought us some toughness that we needed on both the offensive and defensive end, and he was what put us over the top,” said Henderson.
Farmer’s biggest game came against Gary on May 3, when he scored a career-high 42 points in a big comeback win. He was 11-15 from the floor, including 5-5 from three-point range, and 15-16 from the free throw line during that game.
Farmer’s impact continued into the playoffs, when he exploded for 22 first-half points in the Finals opener against the 18-1 Rochester RazorSharks, en route to a second consecutive PBL title. Farmer upped his shooting percentage to 60% in the postseason.
“Jemal singlehandedly shell-shocked Rochester in that game, and they never recovered in the series,” Henderson said.
The award was determined by a panel of league and team executives and coaches.
