Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com today announced that it has added Miami, FL to its growing list of expansion teams for next season. “The new Miami Flame will be a great addition to our Southeast Division,” stated Joe Newman, ABA CEO. “One of our priorities has been to expand the division with more teams in Florida. With the addition of Tampa and Miami, plus several others in the works, we should easily accomplish that goal – and in Aaron and Toynette Camon, we have a great young ownership group that really understands both the game of basketball and the business of basketball.”
Aaron T. Camon Sr. is the owner of Coast to Coast Cleaning Service, Inc., a Tamps Fl-based company. He and Toynette are life long residents of Tampa. Aaron has a passion for basketball (a big LA Lakers fan), and has been coaching AAU basketball for several years. “Owning a professional basketball team has been a dream of Toynette and me for many years,” stated Aaron. “The opportunity to become a part of the ABA family was simply too good to pass. While we’ve lived in Tampa, since there was already a team there for next season, we selected Miami Florida, a city that we know very well – and we intend to make the Miami Flame one of the best organizations in the entire league. We will make Miami and the ABA proud and give the fans there exciting professional basketball at affordable prices.”

I'd love to own a pro basketball team myself, but outside of money issues, there's no way in Hades.

or you could go to Stubhub and get Miami Heat tickets for $17 dollars. The upside to seeing the Heat, is its very rare to show up to an NBA arena on gamenight and see an empty arena with a handwritten sign on the window saying "game cancelled"

I hope we yank every good Florida market away from this train wreck known as the ABA. SHowing people that you can do the same thing WITHOUT forking over $10K should do the trick. The sad thing is that some of these owners financing that 10K over 5 years wouldn't get an FBA team anyway, so I guess we'll have to just stand alone and do what we can do. Not saying that these folks from Tamps (HUH???) Florida are of the same cloth...just that even if they were financially capable, the ABA does a great job of dismantling that hope with each and every no show opponent!

Everytime

Every single time

This league has an incredible ability to continually outdo itself. It's an amazing ability to continually top itself in un-intended comedy.

The Fab 5 indeed

Fab 1: From the release, we have no idea what he does.
Fab 2: A junior college coach. (Lamar State College-Port Arthur is a junior college, not to be confused with Lamar University in nearby Beaumont).
Fab 3: A youth director at a YMCA.
Fab 4: A bail bondsman. He might be the only one of this group with money.
Fab 5: Director of a non-profit.

Don't thank the ABA just yet.
These guys are getting the business lesson of their lives. Good luck. There's probably time to do something else.
To their credit, they have a roster.

Default Hellion Who?

Sportswriter familiar with junior college Lamar-Port Arthur says he has no recollection of a Hellion Knight on the Seahawks' coaching staff, past or present.

Houston Gets Another Minor-League Franchise Not Named the AstrosBy Steve Jansen Tue., Sep. 27 2011 at 4:00 PM Comments (3) Categories: Basketball

The Rockets' immediate future may be up in the air, but the same doesn't apply to the East Houston Heat, a professional basketball franchise that will debut in spring 2012.

First-time general manager Hellion Knight, who played professionally in Europe for three seasons, is heading the minor-league club. He tells Hair Balls that in April, the Heat, following a draft in February, will play ten home games at San Jacinto Community College-North and ten games on the road beginning in April.

The team will compete in the just-christened New Era Basketball Association, which currently boasts six teams in the Houston area (including Katy, Cy Fair and The Woodlands) but may expand into New Mexico, Florida and Louisiana, according to Knight. Along with the 20-game regular season that will be aired on television and/or online, Knight says the league will include an all-star game as well as playoff contests, two things the 2011 Astros know nothing about.
