Should have one of our starting wr's back this week. However, I still think Maryland gets their first win this weekend.

Well Maryland is no better, playing with flag football players, being coached by the owner, not to mention being out scored 220-63 in the past four games too include the T-Hawksdon't bet on black

The ThunderHawks team that Maryland played back in May is not the ThunderHawks team they will see on Saturday. Not anywhere close. At least half of the players that suited up for that game in May are now gone.

The Thunderhawks offense has scored 1 TD in each of the last two games. This is the same offense that was statistically one of the best, if not the best in the league early in the season. This team has been devastated by the owner. Besides not paying the players they don't even send a trainer with to the games anymore. She obviously does not care at all about the players.

So pretty much it's safe to say that the team that wins this game will be the one who makes one less mistake.

Thought you ThunderHawks fans might like to hear this story. One of the Blizzard fan club members needed to take his son to Manitowoc after the game Saturday night to catch the car ferry to Ludington so he could spend the summer with his Mother in Michigan. The ThunderHawks team was also on the ferry and saw Randy and his son still wearing their Blizzard gear. After a joke about throwing them overboard, some of the ThunderHawks players stayed up all night with Randy's son talking football. They even gave him a team ball. This is why I love this game. Let's all hope the ThunderHawks find a way to survive.

Just out of curiosity, what did the Rampage draw on average and did they promote well in the area, get their name out there and keep it there?

BTW good story ogfredog!

The players and coaches from the T'Hawks are an awesome group of guys. I was lucky enough to get to talk to quite a few of the guys over the course of the season and they were very nice. I think that's what bummed me out most with how the team finances tanked... a good group of guys got hosed.

If memory serves correctly, for the first few years they drew pretty well. For football the Van Andel holds a touch over 10K, and I would say that up through the early '00s they would draw 8K-9K on a pretty regular basis.

In the mid '00s the team wasn't all that competitive and attendance did drop. The other day I happened to stumble across some photos I snapped at a 2006 game, it was a Sunday afternoon (sporting events don't usually draw well on Sundays in GR) and if I had to guess I would say the crowd was around 4K. Attendance did start to rebound over the course of the 2008 season, as the team worked its way into the playoffs.

The Rampage did a pretty good job of marketing themselves. They had billboards, they had a weekly coach's show on local TV, they usually had a game or two that aired live on local TV. They had print, radio and TV spots, players made appearances. Basically they did many things that the ThunderHawks didn't.

Thanks for sharing the story. The players have been great since the beginning of the season. I was on the field after every home game. That is what has me so upset with this owner. She has been using these young men. She has played on their love of the game. As soon as they started leaving, she just replaced them with new players she had no intention of paying. Grand Rapids is a great place for a team but it won't happen unless this owner sells. You can't just show up. You need to work it and put a winner on the field. They had half of it because this was a playoff team before it starting falling apart. The real shame is the players are the ones that got it stuck to them and lost a chance to play in the playoffs.
