BIRMINGHAM(AP) – Brian Speelman kicked a 50-yard field goal with six seconds left to give the Denver Gold Gold a 9-7 victory over the Birmingham Stallions in a United States Football League game Sunday.
The Stallions apparently had the game in hand when Speelman fell far short on a 52-yard kick, but a roughing penalty later gave him another chance.
His kick was the only score after Birmingham took a 7-6 lead with almost 13 minutes left in the first half.
Tight end Darryl Mason ran 33 yards on a screen pass to set up that touchdown, scored on a 4-yard run off right tackle by Earl Gant. Scott Norwood kicked the point.
