Scott Norwood kicked three first half field goals tonight and led the Birmingham Stallions to a 16-7 victory over the Arizona Wranglers in a United States Football League game. The crowd was estimated at 5,000 by Birmingham officials.
The Stallions, 2-2, have sought consistent kicking this season and may have found it in Norwood, who booted field goals of 48, 36 and 32 yards for a 9-0 lead at halftime.
Arizona, also 2-2, came back in the third quarter when Alan Risher hit Jackie Flowers on a 15-yard touchdown pass, and Jim Asmus kicked the extra point to make it 9-7. Then, on fourth and 1 with 1 minute 35 seconds left in the game, Cornelius Quarles ran 39 yards for a Birmingham touchdown to seal the victory.
