September 24, 2016 - Two third period goals lifted the Des Moines Buccaneers past the Waterloo Black Hawks, 3-1 on Saturday, as both teams opened their 2016/17 United States Hockey League schedules at Buccaneer Arena. Erik Holmstrom broke a 1-1 tie at 6:50 of the final frame, trailing a rush and stepping across the blue line just in time to receive a drop pass. Holmstrom's blast found the top corner. September 22, 2016 - Waterloo, Iowa-Tim Taylor became a Black Hawk during the autumn of 1963, returned to Boston in 1969, and left a legacy you can see every time a Waterloo youth hockey player takes his first step onto the ice. Taylor will long be remembered for a career which included parts of four decades as an NCAA head coach or assistant, as well as helping to lead two Olympic squads and other service to USA Hockey. September 20, 2016 - Waterloo, Iowa-The rivalry between eastern Iowa's United States Hockey League teams builds toward hoisting the Dupaco Community Credit Union Cowbell Cup this spring and begins when the Waterloo Black Hawks host the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Friday, October 28th. The Hawks, Saints and Cedar Rapids RoughRiders battle for the trophy each winter. All three teams participate in a dozen regularly scheduled games which count toward claiming the prize. Preseason Recap: Low-Scoring Start for Black Hawks

September 6, 2016 - Goals in the final four minutes of the first and third periods kept the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders ahead of the Waterloo Black Hawks, 2-1, in the exhibition opener for both teams Tuesday. Matt Gosiewski opened the scoring with 3:29 remaining in the first period, snapping a shot to the short side to cap an odd-man rush. Cedar Rapids made the score 2-0 almost exactly 40 minutes later at 16:38 of the third, thanks to a redirection by Sam Sternschein on a shot through traffic.
