Metairie, LA - For the first time since 2002, more than 400,000 people passed through the Zephyr Field gates in a single year.

The ballpark, which celebrated its 20th year of operation in 2016, hosted 413,833 spectators between baseball fans, high school football fans and concert-goers.

"The New Orleans Zephyrs promised our fans first-class family entertainment," said Lou Schwechheimer, Zephyrs President. "With exciting Triple-A baseball leading the way and the addition of concerts and Catholic League football, we have created an atmosphere of excitement at family prices so all can enjoy the Zephyr Field experience.

"We will strive to create events that will make the 'Shrine on Airline' the place to be in 2017 and beyond for the next generation of baseball, football and music fans."

The Zephyrs drew 339,400 fans for 66 home dates, an average of 5,142 per game which represented an 8.4 percent increase from the 2015 season. College baseball fans once again flocked to the "Shrine" for the annual Wally Pontiff, Jr. Classic, with a crowd of 10,131 witnessing LSU defeat Louisiana-Lafayette.

A pair of firsts took place at Zephyr Field in 2016, as the ballpark hosted high school football for the first time and attracted 48,013 fans across eight Catholic League contests. And a stadium-record 16,289 people packed the facility on April 6 when Mumford & Sons played the first major concert in Zephyr Field history.

Under the guidance of Schwechheimer, who purchased controlling interest in the Zephyrs last November, the ballpark has become a multi-use, year-round facility as part of a long-term commitment to New Orleans. Future plans for the team, which extended its player development contract with the Miami Marlins through the 2020 season, include more concerts and a series of stadium upgrades.

"We are excited about what we have been able to accomplish in our first year in New Orleans," said Cookie Rojas, named the Zephyrs' Senior Vice President and General Manager in January. "Broadening our appeal beyond baseball fans has allowed us to further our mission to become the premiere venue for affordable family entertainment in the city."
