Zephyrs swept by Nashville

April 20, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Both teams at Zephyr Field Monday afternoon had eight hits and one error, but it was the Nashville Sounds who made better use of their opportunities and went on the win 4-2. The loss was the fifth straight overall for the Zephyrs, it gave the Sounds a four-game series sweep, and has the Z's picking up a second straight series loss.

The Z's struck first with a run in the first inning, but Nashville tied the game in the third with a run of their own. In both the fourth and fifth innings the leadoff hitter for Nashville blasted a home run. First it was Joe Koshansky who went deep, and then Matt Gamel as the Sounds hit a total of five homers between Sunday and Monday's games.

Z's starter Brett Sinkbeil picked up the loss as and is now 0-2 against the Sounds this season. Out of the pen, Willie Collazo and Brian Sanches each allowed just one hit and no walks in two shutout innings of work.

Mike Burns was inserted as the starter for Nashville at the last minute and allowed only two runs over seven innings to earn the win. Chris Smith got his second save of the series and the season by pitching two scoreless innings for the Sounds.

The Zephyrs are on the road in Round Rock for the next four games beginning Tuesday. All four games are scheduled to start at 7:05. The next homestand at Zephyr Field starts this Saturday against Albuquerque, with first pitch at 6:00 p.m. and a fireworks extravaganza to follow the game.
