Zephyrs Hold on to Beat Omaha 6-5

Papillion, NE - The New Orleans Zephyrs opened their longest road trip of the season with a thrilling finish in a 6-5 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers.

The Chasers loaded the bases in the ninth inning trailing 6-4 when Ramon Torres singled to left field. A run scored and Irving Falu rounded third and headed home to tie the game as the Zephyrs left fielder Destin Hood made a perfect throw home to get the final out.

Tyler Kinley earned his first career Triple-A save and the Z's preserved the win. New Orleans improved its record to 34-36 on the season. Dylan Axelrod earned the win pitching five innings allowing three runs on five hits.

The Z's offense had a banner evening with 14 hits including a three hit game for Brady Shoemaker and Austin Nola.  

GAME NOTES

Tyler Kinley earned his first career Triple-A save and became the 12th different Zephyr to earn a save this season. The 12 saves ties a franchise record for a season. The Z's have not hit the half way point in the 2016 season yet.

The Zephyrs have won six consecutive against Omaha this season.

The Z's opened a 13 day, 12 game roadtrip on Tuesday with stops in Omaha, Memphis and Colorado Springs. The trip will cover 4036 miles.

ON DECK

The Zephyrs continue the trip in Omaha. The Z's will start RHP Jose Urena (1-2, 4.76) against LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (2-6, 4.96) The game will be broadcast on WODT Fox Sports 1280 AM and streamed at iHeart Radio App.

The Zephyrs return home on July 4th to face Round Rock in a three game series.
