Zephyrs Get a Pair of Scruggs Home Runs in Win

SALT LAKE CITY - Xavier Scruggs belted a pair of home runs for his fourth multi-home run game of the season and the Zephyrs held on to defeat the Salt Lake Bees 4-3 to even the series at one.

The Zephyrs took the lead in the first inning with a Destin Hood RBI single, his 77th run batted in for the season.

The Bees answered with a pair of runs in the third inning to take the lead 2-1. Scruggs tied the game with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Issac Galloway homered in the fourth inning to give the Zephyrs the lead.

Scruggs hammered his second home run of the night and his fifth in his last seven games in the sixth inning to give the Zephyrs a 4-2 lead.

Salt Lake scored a run in the seventh inning to cut into the Z's lead but the bullpen closed the deal. Justin Nicolino earned the win pitching six and two third innings allowing three runs on nine hits. Nefi Ogando worked an inning and a third and Andre Rienzo earned his seventh save.

New Orleans improved to (60-63) on the season and the Bees are now (56-66).

GAME NOTES

The Zephyrs added pitcher Austin Brice from the Marlins. He appeared in one game for the Marlins.

The Zephyrs are 33-33 on the road this season.

ON DECK

The Zephyrs continue their series with Salt Lake, Thursday at 8:05pm central. New Orleans will start RHP Asher Wojciechowski (2-5, 6.11) against LHP Nate Smith (7-7, 4.97).

RADIO: The game will be broadcast on WODT Fox Sports 1280 AM and streamed at iHeart Radio App.

THE HOME STAND

The Zephyrs return home Saturday night to host the Oklahoma City Dodgers in the first game of a four game series.
