Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, NE - The New Orleans Zephyrs hit a pair of two-out, two-run homers Sunday afternoon at Rosenblatt Stadium, while the Omaha Royals went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position. It all added up to a 4-1 win for the Z's, leaving 3,091 fans disappointed with the outcome.

With two outs in the first inning, Doug Mientkiewicz singled and Hector Luna followed with a line drive homer over the left field wall to give New Orleans the early 2-0 lead. Those were the only runs allowed by Omaha starter Philip Humber, who gave up just two singles and a walk over the next six innings. Humber (2-3) struck out five, but wound up on the wrong end of his fifth decision.

Leading 2-1 in the ninth, Jason Lane singled with two outs and came home when Donnie Murphy blasted Victor Marte's 1-0 delivery over the left field wall for his second home run of the series and fourth of the season.

The Royals' lone run came in the fourth when, with two outs, Jordan Parraz doubled off the warning track in right-center and Jai Miller followed with a looping single to center for his fourth RBI in 10 games with the Royals.

Omaha left ten runners on base, including a pair of runners in each of the first two innings, as Brad Stone (1-1) survived five innings to pick up the first Triple-A win of his career. The Royals loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth inning off Brett Sinkbeil, but Irving Falu grounded out to Mientkiewicz at first base to end the threat. On the year, Falu is hitless in ten at-bats with two outs and runners in scoring position.

As a team, the Royals average with runners in scoring position dropped to .230. Omaha is hitting just .167 (3-for-18) with the bases full.

New Orleans closer Kasey Olenberger - who entering the game had a 0.00 ERA in six home appearances, but a 20.25 ERA in six road outings - walked Cody Clark to begin the ninth. However, he retired Falu on a fly out to right and induced Marc Maddox to hit into a game-ending double play. Olenberger earned his fourth save.

The Zephyrs (14-15) improve to 8-6 on the road. With the loss, the Royals (14-15) drop to 6-12 at home. The Zephyrs have won six of eight since snapping a six-game losing streak. Omaha has lost four of five since posting a season-high, five-game win string.

The finale of the shortened, three-game series is Monday at 11:05 a.m. The pitching matchup has New Orleans righty Rick VandenHurk (2-2, 5.33) facing Omaha right-hander Gaby Hernandez (2-2, 6.12).
