Yuri Terao Is Four-Midable
April 2, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks needed all four of Yuri Terao's goals Saturday during a 6-4 win against the Sioux City Musketeers at Young Arena.
The Musketeers had the majority of their ten first period shots during the opening five minutes of the game, but it was the Black Hawks who came out of that span with the lead. At 1:56, Shane Bowers deflected a sharp-angled Michael Davies chance, sending the puck across the goalmouth, and leaving Terao with an open side. Another Bowers deflection led to a second Terao goal at 12:07. Bowers batted the puck, which landed in the slot, and Terao lunged - fully-extended - to knock the disc across the goal line.
Sioux City cut down the Black Hawks lead in the second period, leveling the score with goals separated by 17 seconds at 7:22 and 7:39. Mitch Fossier scored the first on a breakaway. The second tally came when his errant shot came off the glass and was put back by Josh Wilkins moments later.
Terao completed his hat trick to nudge the Black Hawks back in front at 12:19, wristing a shot under the crossbar. However, with 56.7 seconds remaining before intermission, Eeli Tolvanen blasted the puck into the net from the top of the right circle.
Georgs Golovkovs renewed the Waterloo lead 2:29 into the third period. Coming up right wing, Golovkovs turned toward the high slot, from where he sent a shot off a defender's stick and fluttering over the glove of Cam Gornet. Sioux City had one more comeback left, and at 6:45 tied the game when Matt Steeves drove the puck into the net from the top of the left circle.
However, Terao had one more goal left too, using a magical touch to put Waterloo in front permanently at 11:17. From behind the Musketeer net, Terao lifted his chance into the crease, off a defender, and across the goal line. Six minutes later, Nick Swaney put Waterloo out of reach, converting a breakaway with a low shot to the glove side.
The final weekend of USHL regular season play will be next Friday and Saturday, when the Black Hawks play home games in the Dupaco Cowbell Cup Series against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Dubuque Fighting Saints respectively.
