Youngstown Phantoms Acquire Samuel Solensky

YOUNGSTOWN - The Youngstown Phantoms have acquired Samuel Solensky from the Johnstown Tomahawks of the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

Solensky's first regular season games with the team will be this weekend in Dubuque and Bloomington, however, has prior experience playing with the Phantoms during September training camp and the United States Hockey League (USHL) Fall Classic in Pittsburgh.

"Solensky really stood out and competed hard at our camp in September, and he had a very good showing with us against the USA NTDP U18 team at USHL Fall Classic," said General Manager Jason Koehler. "At that time we did not have another spot available for an import player, so Solensky elected to play in Johnstown due to the proximity to Youngstown and the potential of returning to our team."

Since the loss of Brett Murray to Penn State University, the team has had an open import slot to fill. Solensky is a 1998 born left-shot forward from Michalovce, Slovakia. He played in 31 games for the Tomahawks this season scoring eight goals and tallying 15 assists.

"Solensky left us with a positive impression and we look forward to him generating some creative offense and showing that his skill level has improved since playing in the NAHL," said Koehler. "We are thankful for our partnership with Johnstown and appreciate their staffs' willingness to help us make this move possible."

In addition to Solensky joining the Youngstown Phantoms' roster, forward Garrett Hall was claimed on a waiver trade by the USHL Tri-City Storm.

Due to an off-season injury and recent surgery, Hall had not played in any games for the Phantoms in the 2016-17 season. Hall was to move to the Topeka Roadrunners in the NAHL, however, was picked up by Tri-City.

"It's a great opportunity for Garrett to go to another USHL club that's interested him and his ability in the future," said Koehler. "We wish him nothing but the best and a full recovery."

The Youngstown Phantoms roster could have some additional movement and changes with the upcoming February 6 USA Hockey trade deadline and the February 27 USHL trade deadline.
