Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(York, PA) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (5-7) were defeated the York Revolution (7-6) 5-4 in 11 innings at PeoplesBank Park on Tuesday night on a walk off solo home run by cleanup hitter Telvin Nash with one out off losing pitcher Scott Shuman (1-1). The roundtripper was the second of the night for Nash, part of a four home run evening for the Revolution, with Andres Perez blasting a pair of big flies as well. York has now taken the first two of the four game series, with a day/night doubleheader wrapping things up tomorrow.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher R.J. Hively picked up a no decision after pitching the first five innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, walking one, striking out ten (a season high) and surrendering three home runs and a wild pitch, while also hitting a batter. York Starting Pitcher Mike McClendon also did not factor in the game's final outcome, lasting six innings, giving up four runs (three earned runs) on nine hits, walking one, striking out two and issuing a home run. Michael Click (1-1) registered the win out of the bullpen with two scoreless innings.

Bridgeport got on the board first in the opening half inning off McClendon on an RBI single by Luis Nunez, scoring Ruben Sosa Jr. after he opened up the ballgame with a single and a stolen base, and two batters in Bridgeport took the early 1-0 lead. The 'Fish would make it 2-0 in their favor in the second on a run scoring single by Sosa Jr., plating Rossmel Perez who reached base on a two out throwing error by Perez. The visitors would continue their early onslaught against McClendon in the top of the third when Jose Cuevas launched a two run home run over the left center field wall to give Bridgeport a 4-0 cushion, It was the second blast of the season for Cuevas, who has now driven home a team high ten runs.

York answered right back in the home half of the third inning, sending eight batters to the plate against Hively, picking up four runs on four hits to even the game up at 4-4. Michael Rockett began the hit parade with an opposite field RBI triple, driving home Jason Repko who was hit by a pitch. Perez then followed with a two run home run to cut the deficit to a single run, and right after that Nash tied the game with a solo shot over the giant wall in left field, and in the blink of an eye Bridgeport's four run lead had evaporated. The Revolution took their first lead of the night in the fifth when Perez belted his second big fly of the night, a solo shot that put York in front 5-4.

Bridgeport fought back in the eighth inning off York reliever Beau Vaughan when Wilkin Ramirez reached on a one out infield single. Ramirez then stole second base, and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Keith Castillo. Ramirez would cross the plate with the tying run on a Perez sacrifice fly, knotting the game at five. The game remained deadlocked until the bottom half of the 11th inning, when Nash sent the fans home happy with the walk off home run off Shuman, handing the Bluefish their first extra inning and walk off loss of the 2016 season. Ramirez led the offensive attack with three of the 11 over hits for Bridgeport. Hively, Joseph Kuzia, Taylor Thompson, David Carpenter, Eric Niesen, and Shuman combined to strike out 17 Revolution hitters, a new season high surpassing a total of 14 which was set on April 29th at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard against the New Britain Bees.
